Photoshoping My Pics - How Best To Enhance Them

I was at a trakday and took the following shots (the only editing has been the plates): Clicky (Still uploading as I type) plz. ignore other stuff on that server as its shared :(

With 280 244 228 being my favourites,

Now comes the dilemma of how best to enhance them - so far my PS skillz are: Desaturating parts of an image and removing the background.
So, please can the PS experts explain (I can't upload all my images and would like to edit them too) how I can enhance these images to the best possible

Here are two shots that a Pro (with SLR) took (and they were FREE) and I'd also like to enhance these.

heres my attempt at the last one:

What i did:
Cropped to roughly follow rule of thirds
Image > Adjustments > Auto Levels
Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation - +10 saturation
Image > Adjustments > Shadow/Highlight - 5% shadow increase
Image > Adjustments > Shadow/Highlight - 10% highlights increase
Select > Colour Range - selected dark area at front of car, added feather of 1px then slightly increased levels.

Westyfield2 your photos are much better than the ones taken by so called "Pro" (I cant believe he is using D200)
