Physical disc production ending in January 2028 for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles

Not true. Just the typical clickbait.. 4k UHD discs have actually gone up in sales and even CDs.
One day on and whilst it might be football induced insomnia...I think I've decided to sell the PS5 Pro. In a way this is Sony's 'just four games' moment for me.
There will be downsides; missing out on GTA 6 and Sony exclusives, having to re-buy some of my library. But there's also positives; immediately generate some money to pump into PC upgrades on my lounge/AM4 box, free up a 2TB NVMe drive and an external 2TB USB-C external drive. My Dualsense/Dualshock joypads can be used on PC. And centralising my digital library on PC with Steam & GOG.
I did already have concerns about the price of PS6 and the likely incoming price increases in PlayStation Plus (I'm already at what I'd consider a limit for the Essential-tier sub). And although I'm not a physical collector on PlayStation the arrogance of this announcement and lack of a support program has annoyed me enough.
So now to begin the process of changing over.
I’m close to doing the same. I bought into PS5 to build a nice collection of physical games I can own for a long time. I can still do that for a while but the entire approach Sony has taken has left a very sour taste.
I've really enjoyed the PS5/Pro hardware, more so than the Series X when I owned it. PSSR and some of those improvements there have been brilliant. For Sony's first-party games I'd argue it's still the reference experience. But if I'm not committed to buying PS6 then I'd rather cash-out now than run it down.
I've not long built a new AM5 gaming PC, but I have also been using the old AM4 PC with Steam OS in the lounge just as much (to the annoyance of my other half). And that has really pushed me to spending time with PC again. I think the other part of the equation is I've become a real patient game waiting for discounts who plays way more indie videogames and PC is where I already buy and play those.
So although there's a risk, it'll also be a bit exciting; less is more and all that.
Will likely follow suit, but I'm going to see how things pan out over the next 6 months. In the interim, no further purchases from Sony.

I started playing on my pc again this past week, built in early 2025 so still a decent machine, 4070ti super 7800x3d, 64gb ram. I used for flight sim, but im going to start playing more games on it, might have to get some more storage down the line.
Playing Horizon 6 on it currently. Can't see myself using my ps5pro for quite a while now, maybe for new gta and any exclusives that look good, but thats it.
PC offers just so much more, good bargains, and obscure games.

That's fair, I am acting on an impulse a bit. Even up until last week I was OK with Sony.
But I think whatever happens Sony needs to get a team on this, start with a formal apology and begin a process to properly manage some of the criticisms from their customers. Particularly following-on from the Studio Canal debacle.

Indeed. I replaced my PS5 with the Pro on launch day, and I'm damn glad I did. I've been with Sony from the start; with the exception of the Vita, I've purchased every console and enjoyed the ride from the beginning to this potential end.
BUT, this will likely be my last console unless Sony pulls their head out of their backside. They need to revamp how they deliver digital content, provide better consumer rights around ownership, and implement a fair transfer/refund policy. The PS6 needs to be something truly special.
They've got a couple of years to change course; otherwise, a SteamOS or Bazzite box seems like the better way to go.

I do think just running down the PS5 Pro would be a more sensible option, maybe cheaper option too.
This morning I've pulled the trigger on the 5800X3D, 9060XT and Phantom Spirit 120 cooler so basically spent all the money from the sale of the PS5 Pro, and old PC parts already (once sold). So I'm committed to going down this path. If it doesn't work out, or PS6 ends up being a reasonable price there is nothing stopping me re-buying. But my intention is to be PC & Nintendo only from now on.
Enjoy it. Great machine. I don't regret buying the PS5 in 2022, or the PS5 Pro one bit. I just think Sony needs to acknowledge the massive mistake its just made and start repairing those relationships with its customers. But they are definitely going down the right path in terms of exclusives. I've just decided I want to try and simplify my setup a bit. But who knows it might end up being a mistake.
I hope so, or at least they are the regulatory body most likely to react. But I think it also needs sorting for all forms of digital entertainment, beyond just videogames.
I'm not so sure. This entire model of purchasing a license to use a product, which can be pulled at any time, whether due to lapsed third-party licensing issues or a dubious infraction, seems wholly anti-consumer. I'm also surprised that Sony's refund policy hasn't faced more scrutiny. Perhaps, just maybe, this recent move will prompt some action from EU legislators

Steam have been doing it since day 1 and PC gamers are fine with it. Discs are dead, let's just all move on!
Picture this. All PC games can only be bought via Steam. No CD keys, no GOG or Epic store. With no competition and a complete monopoly on PC games sales, do you think Steam needs to put games on sale? New games, £80 please, because you can’t get it elsewhere.
This is where Sony is heading with the removal of physical media. For example, 007 First Light is available at many retailers for £48.99, I paid £45. From Sony store, it’s £59.99.
