Physical removal of my old AGP FX5090 HELP! :(

Hi Guys,

I have an old AGP Geforce FX5090 128mb card and i've just bought one of the BFG 6800 GS 256mb as an upgrade.

This is a bit pathertic but the problem is I've broken off the small plastic handle of L shapped "locking hook arm" of the 5090 and can't get the damn card to come out now! I dont want to force it and risk damaging the AGP slot and wondered if you guys has any quick or cunning ideas on how i could get this card out without resorting to a saw!

Pics up close of it might help, i just guess a screwdrive wedged right should help, but all the locks work differently, just use a bit of common sense really?

tbh, before you go swinging a screw driver round in there. i would just give the card a pull and see if it will pop out. as the lock thing is only meant to give it a bit of security when being used. it might be worth a shot

There's normally a little locking mechanism on the right of the card which you press down to release the L shaped locking arm, as you describe.

You push it down (towards the mobo)

Yeah see if you can get a small screwdriver being really careful to push the remains of the clip downwards

thats it ,just slide it in gently but firmly where the L shaped remains are and prize it open steadily,then pull dude.

All removed guys thanks for your help. I managed to wiggle it fine with w screwdriver! New 6800GS installed and kicking! 3dMark 2005 went from 978 to 4520 !

Very Nice, did a similar upgrade myself last year (5900XT to 128mb 6800GT).

Went from 1100 to 4500 in 05, hate to break it to you, the jump isn't quite that significant in games, more like 2.5x the performance (rather than the 4x in 05), My 03 score went from 5500 to 11000.
