Pipex 8meg Unlimited any good?

Just asking on behalf of a m8, hes already an existing pipex 1meg (20k p2p) capped customer at 23 quid per month....

Is it any good? truely unlimited service?

And to note he tried to goto Ukonline but they were unable to migrate him 100% after 3 months of no connection he simple phoned pipex and was back online so I dont think hes looking to goto anyware else just yet!

Who is "he"?

Pipex Max Broadband Only (£24.99/month) is a good service if you're happy with being heavily traffic managed. It's subject to an AUP so hardly "unlimited" either.

ahh see so it is monitored for heavy users and they can simple cut you if they wish, cheers will let him know !

Pipex is throttled, but it seems to be getting a little better. I download loads and they havent done anything with me yet

Are they going to upgrade existing customers to the 8meg service as well? (I'm on a 2 meg service signed up last year May/June)

No they refused to do that when I asked. You could ask for a mac code and migrate back to them lol

you can port forward your p2p connection which gets round the throttling, i know cos i'm on the same pipex package at the moment.

I've just ordered a line with UKFSN. £20p/m for 30gb peak and 300gb off peak. There's a £50 connection charge but the service is meant to be good and the connections great too.

What im thinking of doing, but the MAx 60 service for £30, just waiting a week see if i get the FUP details from AOL as they are supposed to be emailing em out, but if they don't show up by next Friday then its MAC time, and UKFSN here we come, the caps are great, all weekend is off peak as well, and they don't shape/throttle, nowt, so they'll do me as i dont mind a cap as long as when i go to download i get my proper speeds, and not some shaped/throttled crap like you get form everywhere else.

i was with pipex on there 2meg service was paying them £34 a month but i phoned up in nov & they upgraded me to the 8mb max service for free plus i kept my 12emails address & i got a staic ip too all for £25 a month now ;-)

so ring them up & be nice just say you are all ready with them & you dont want to change to some one else so can you plz upgrade my account.... .

just lie a bit & be very nice to them ha-ha

Yup, they really are an excellent ISP. Ping times are great as well! I went from 48 with plusnet down to 32 on UKFSN in UT2k4.

Ping times arent everything unfortunately. I have a tiscali ip and multiplay game servers are based with tiscali it seems.
So I can get a 15ms ping on any multiplay server however I cannot tracert any address due to excessive traffic and the actual quality of the connection is absolutely awfull, 15ms or not.

Also make sure you realise that Pipex is a holding company for a variety of isps as well as its own actual pipex isp

most entanet resellers have similar packages. I've heard good things about the UKFSN customer service so that swayed it for me.

THe only downer is that the line i have my BB on now, i'm cancelling so i'm having to pay £55 connection fee for my other line.

My 8meg should be coming through soon.... been with em on 1meg for ages. Can't really argue with their service... ADSL Max & unlimited anytime calls for £27.49 p/m is a decent deal IMO.

What exactly did you tell/ask them? When does your current contract with them run out?

i jus said in a nice way i was on there 2meg solo service have been for about 1.5years !! and i have seen that new customers can get 8mb max so can i have that service please.... . the lad on the phone asked someone and came back after 10mins & said yes you can with the 12email address you have now & the new cost will be £25 a month ! plus i get the staic ip inc too.
i have a new contact with them now for 12months !.
i have been with thm now for nealy 3 years........ .

it as ben great apart the last 3 days as it dropped from 7000lbs to 900kbs !! some times it is ok but others it slows right down boo hoo
i have been donwloading some 5gb of odd stuff in the last few days before the touble happend..... so i have rang them up and done some line tests and it is running 6000kbs now but i have a belkin F5D7633-4A rounter with the new firmware on it, what is not 100% as the wi-fi part is all ways dropping out so i might go for a netgear dg834n from overclockers.... .??
