I am currently on NTL which is swtiching to Virgin media, i can say I have already seen some speed capping during the day as my downloads get about 60% over night and have to leave it over 2 mornings and 2 evenings to get the rest 40%.

so i m looking for a phone deal package with broadband. Pipex seems to do this Free anytime phone calls (as long as 90min long calls) and also Unlimited upto 8mbs braodband for £28 a month which is about the same i am getting on NTL at the moment without the unlimited phone calls.

Now i would like to know if Pipex is a good ISP in terms of customer services, technical support and speed? would deeply appreciate your inputs.

yeah i,m going to go with ENTA out of interest which of the resellers did you go with i,m tempted by UKFSN ?

^ I went with ADSL24 mate, there support number is 0800. I dont think you can go wrong with any Enta reseller though. The only one I would'nt recommend is Aquiss, their not strickly a reseller but a LT2P isp. They are linked to Enta but use there own network. Oh plus I found Aquiss to be liars, and after a bit of digging, seem a bit dodgy to me.

pipex used to be reliable, fast and good customer service. they've some what gone down hill and they now traffic manage too.

yes SNAP the same with Nildram ,there p2p is slow ! infact there slow at everything now ! i,ve been with them 4 years and they were a FAB isp ,shame that people have to get greedy and sell out ,if they had sold out to ENTA might be all sing together ! ha ! ;)

You'd really be going from crap to crap. While I've never had a huge problem with their CS they've just started exercising their fair use policy and capping speeds.

I even had my usenet port locked down on Sunday. Luckily I have a handful to choose from.

UKFSN here, first month, and its been a cracking service so far, well impressed, wish id moved to these ages ago, although saying that i would have if id heard about them, but i only really heard about them, and how good they were in Jan when i was looking for someone else, can't fault them at all. :D

Aquiss use a 'bit of both' but from my tracerts I recieve bandwidth from Enta (uses Enta's hardware) and not through L2TP. L2TP is better anyway - you don't have the anti loss tool to contend with. :p

There is about 3 people bad mouthing Aquiss on every BB forum TBB, DSLzone and a third that I can't remember. What does that say about them? This has been well covered in the hidden forums on Aquiss.

Aquiss are not perfect - their payment has to be done by PayPal as the company they used for dealing with payment went into liquidation.

thanks for the input I shall look for a company maybe offers good telephone services and a reseller which is affiliated with ENTA. cheers

btw how do i find out the resellers who is affiliated with ENTA?

Stay away from Pipex. They are one of those companies who's support lines will "give up" when busy. I have often had a situation when phoning on behalf of a customer.... only to get a message of "we are too busy, phone back later". Not very good....

Also - from personal experience as an IT Support engineer around Brighton and Sussex, I personally think NTL/Virgin's cable service is MUCH more reliable than any ADSL system. You also get what you pay for without any problems with "distance from the phone exchange".

So check your line length before you leave..... you don't want to be stuck with a 2Mbps connection.... :)

apparently I am 490m from the Exchange, being a cable user all my life I have no idea if that's close or not. That doesn't sound like a small/good distance to me

See now I thought that was more of an urban legend now what with repeaters and the like.

Yes that's good. Where I used to live I had a line distance of around 5.5km and just about scraped a stable 2.5mbit connection.a

Nope, exchange distance is very much an issue.

Pipex were good, back when i first got broadband my 512k speeds were much higher than rated, now they vary loads, i can get close to 600-650kbps/280kbps on some days and 50-100kbps on others :(

Need a change of isp but i don't have a usage cap on this connection so.... :p

You're subject to the same fair use policy as everyone else on Pipex they just haven't had to enforce it on you yet. As soon as you start consistantly going above the "fair use" line you'll get a letter through the post.

Surely only for the more extreme distances and those on crappy wiring then?

yep i got that letter.. and i want to move service.. not because of that but because of the shocking customer service (my experience) and constant disconnects and extreme lag during the evening (admitedly it may be BT's line's problem.. but who knows since both companies dont wish to help me)
