thought i would make a thread for this:

so gives a chance for everyone who is interested or didnt know that there is a stress test on a new mmorpg today, (well starts the 4th i believe, but keys are going up today sometime)

On Monday, October 1st, Flying Lab Software and Sony Online Entertainment will be kicking off a Beta Stress Test event that will invite File Planet subscription holders to temporarily participate in the Pirates of the Burning Sea beta test. We expect File Planet stress test accounts to go live on the afternoon of Thursday, October 4th and expire at midnight on Sunday, October 7th, Pacific Standard Time.

Why a Stress Test?
This stress test is a crucial phase in the development of our server infrastructure, and the temporary addition of File Planet subscriber accounts will provide us with the data we need to evaluate and adjust the stability and scalability of our networks.

More information will be shared as it becomes available.

Best,
Aether

personally..
i cant wait for my chance to be a pirate!!

arrggg! me matey! ;)

Ok No Flames that File Planet only cost a small amount of money to subscribe.

But Why should anyone have to pay to beta a game. I find it stupid.

your not paying just for beta.

i been fileplanet founder for years, and find it one of the best things to buy on the internet, thats why i have a full page of beta key's, demo's, games, patches/updates,

its no different then buying a subscription for a year with a pc magazine.

i cant see why so many people say that line...

far from it. ;)

cool, thanks fort he heads up. Looking forward to this game, not sure if it'll be as hardcore pvp as i'm hopeing but looks fun for sure.

Woohoo been looking forward to this.

Vanguard
Supcom
ETQW
Crysis
And now pirates beta, well worth my 30 squid :)

Hmm i think i will give this a try.

I agree Kezmo, some people scoff at paying for fileplanet but its 30quid well spent :)

This will be interesting, just with a few hundred people logged in there's crippling open sea lag, erm, allegedly.

Btw join Spain ;)

Those betas, demos etc used to be free. Now, thanks to the fileplanet-gamespy-ign evil empire they pay developers or make it part of the deal to use gamepsy as the game browser to give them exclusive beta's, demo's first dibs on patchs etc.

The end result is less people get to play the beta's, demo's and when they are released to the public its always a 24 hour wait as fileplanet throttle the hell out of connections and the wait for a torrent (or and ftp in the old days) to go up.

Before fileplanet everything was nice and free to all.

p.s. im a Gamespy member, but after i bought my lifetime membership they started offering it for $5 and made a new tier above it.

Same here paid lifetime sub to find im getting nothing for it anymore. Thought about buying the lowest Fileplanet sub then though about what had happened before. So much for customer loyalty. Anyway for what its worth gamespy was utter crap and stopped using it years ago.

Having said that its pretty much the same for All Seeing Eye people payed a lifetime for that, Yahoo! took it over, now look at it.

I like t' sound o' this game a lot so hope it's a good 'un. Shame that SOE be involved though, that will count against it at t' start anyway. Also shame that the stress test has to compete with the rugby world cup and f1 gp over the weekend, bad timing there!

I...nevermind.

You don't have to pay.
Also it's having a privelage at playing a game earlier more than anything.
It's a trend to call demo's/sneak peaks, "beta" these days.

I moan a lot about fileplanet but at least they're good at what they do. The keys have gone out nice and early, it's well advertised on their site and there's endless bandwidth for the huge client download. Would be seriously annoying trying to download a 4 gig client at 5k/sec because the developer had tried to handle the distribution themselves and they ran out of bandwidth.

They're still money grabbing ******** though :)
