Pixilated screen followed by PC crash, any ideas?

Not sure which area of the forum to post this so hope this finds the intended audience.

I keep getting random coloured pixilation on my screen during boot up and also in windows. It gets increasing worse and the screen eventually says "no signal". The problem has been getting worse and now often crashes before windows loads.

I was advised to update graphics drivers and eventually I replaced the graphics card. I was then advised that it was likely the motherboard so that’s now been swapped as has the RAM.

My current build:
Motherboard: ASUS P5P43TD Pro (intel P43 chipset)
RAM: Kingston 4GB 1333Mhz DDR3
Graphics: XFX ATI Radeon HD 4890 1024MB GDDR5
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40Ghz (1066FSB)
Power: OCZ StealthXStream 500W silent power
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache
DVD: Pioneer DVR-216DBK 20x DVDRW

When I can get into the bios the temperatures are all below 50C. Any ideas on what to look for next? Could it be CPU or Power?

Any help gratefully received. Many thanks.

After a new GFX and mobo its still happening? Odd.

I would have said it might be the monitor of cable but a bit of a stab in the dark. Power supply would probably be the most likely cause.

I've tried a second monitor and swapped the cable.
I'll track down a spare PSU and see how i go. I'd prefer a PSU issue over a CPU issue.
Thanks for the replies.

For PSU to cause such problems would require some serious gonig haywire but then again that ripple prone platform based PSU uses rather craptacular CapXon electrolytes...
Time to open it up fast and look for bulging/leaking caps.

Don't open your PSU unless you know what you're doing ffs. EsaT should know better than to suggest that to a new guy.

How much has this issue cost you ffs!!!!! I hate stuff like this!!!!

Try a different psu, sounds like its not powerful enough or its just had it. How old is the psu btw and what brand?

bought a new PSU icute 600W. System ran fine for 4 hours. Then the problem is back. dots and lines on the screen during bootup and in windows then windows crashes or screen says "no signal".

So i only have the CPU and Hard drive to go.

Any idea on what to do next...?

I hate these problems.. must be close to £300 spent already :) nearly have a spare PC now in replaced parts.

still sounds like GFX problem to me. have you disabled any onboard graphics? unlikely to be the new card of course, but if old chip is still enabled it might be causing problems. next guess would be PCI Express slot problem, i.e. mobo problem.

i would also try removing everything but leave one stick of ram in and the new gfx card and see what's what.

I still get the problem with my Nvidia 8800GTX and my Radeon HD 4890, if i get as far as windows it usually says diplay stopped responding and within 5 mins will blue screen.
I have no onbaord graphics and have tried with 1 stick of RAM. Motherboard was replaced to resolve the issue 3 weeks ago.

Could my case have anything to do with it?

Ok, CPU now changed, ran fine for 24 hours and now the same problem is back.
Any ideas? thank you.

You have used thermal paste on the CPU/Heatsink havent you? All fans operating correctly? Got any pics inside your case?

Has both the Motherboard 24-pin power in correctly (until it clicks into place) and the P4 connector (Next to the PSU). Also, do the graphics cards both have the extra power connectors plugged in?

Sounds thermal. When you installed the motherboard, are the spacers in and in the correct holes? You havent added any extras in to 'sipport' the board? As this could cause an intermittent fault and shorting when the board warms up. You can check this by building PC outside of the case on a mat (Not the carpet!) / square of cardboard / box.
