Pizza Hut apologises after demanding a group of black players pay in advance for their bill

It really is as simple as if you own a restaurant (loose term in referencing Pizza Hut and it's ilk) it's at your discretion who you serve, be they black, white or indigo.

This is a none issue, it's the owner/manager's call.

If you live in an area where you'd had a number of none payers or problems and they happened to be predominately black it would be completely natural to have a conscious or subconscious bias.

PC BS gets my goat; and because of it I can't even sleep with them these days!

TBH I don't have a problem with it.

I don't care what their criteria is, but if someone fits the criteria of an un-paying customer than fair enough if they ask them to pay in advance.

I don't give a **** what their criteria is, aslong as it's based on evidence. I'd assume it's based on a mixture of dress, age, attitude, accent, colour.

Having said all that.... pizza hut is a dive!

I answered this in my OP and no, I don't think I would be. I'd wonder why, but that would be about as far as it got. The only way to prove them wrong is politely agree and carry on.

Fair enough if you guys wouldn't. I personally would be a bit miffed to have been singled out ... probably not enough to make a fuss but I would probably be thinking in my head "Why us/me?".

As I said earlier, give someone the discretion to use this at will and it can blow up in their face if their judgement is called into question.

So whilst it is the manager's prerogative if they want to pre-judge people coming in to their store such that some customers are asked to pay before eating, they have to accept that they run the risk of their judgement being called in to question when they make those calls, perhaps incorrectly in this instance. You have to remember that they are customers - this whole debacle hasn't exactly been out of "Customer Service 101".

Anyway with an ounce of clarity will realise that by making such a judgement call will likely result in alienating those people from returning and thus it's a none issue i.e. they won't be missed.

If I threw people out of an establishment for a good reason I wouldn't be too concerned if they didn't show up again, in fact I wouldn't want them to.

Surely you could apply these same cries of racism to petrol pumps?

Quite a few around where I live are pay before pumping and I do live in a area with a lot of black people and poverty. However, whenever I've turned up to put petrol in my car, the attendant has always just let me put fuel in and pay normally afterwards.

Is that racial profiling because I'm white and look less like I'm going to do a runner?
Where as the attendent is unlikely to let somebody pay afterwards if they think they might try and steal it.

Friend worked in one, while witing for him to finish one night i got asked to the managers office because she didnt know how to cash up "my friend does computers he will help" i just walked out back to their cash office......the back of house looked disgusting. good times.
