Places to Eat in York

Ah I've only been a couple of times about 3 years ago. Remembered it being alright.

I think it was I went similar time to you and it was fantastic went back recently , I had to drink 8 pints to quench my thirst that all the salt in the food created:p

Still high on trip adviser though , also Ate o'clock is a good bet if your after traditional English food.

Avoid the big chains in York and find yourself a locally owned restaurant and you won't go far wrong:)

You can do better than that in York !

Lol. You probably have no idea what its like to live in an area thats so bereft of decent or "high brow" resteraunts that even a chain resteraunt like Pizza Express or Strada can seen like a rare treat.

But I will try and go to places that are exclusive to York, assuming I like what they have on the menu of course :p

Does anyone know if any of these places have a dress code? I dont plan to go out looking scruffy, but will probably be in pressed jeans and either a collared shirt or a plain polo shirt.

Also will I have problems going in without a reservation? Im still not totally decided on which places I want to visit, so am hesistant to book a table in case I end up not wanting to go.

some of the places are small so its worth booking (cafe no 8, El Paradiso del Chibo, Blue Bicycle of the ones mentioned here) and the rest can get pretty busy so its worth it just to avoid disappointment.

as for dress code, nope. was in cafe no 8 in jeans and a tshirt last weekend for a evening meal because im a philistine ;)

Spent a few days up in York a couple of months ago, we stayed at the Cedar Court Hotel and would very much recommend the restaurant there, although it wasn't the cheapest place to eat.

I had been to York for work previously and eaten at The Old Siam (Thai) and was keen to go back there, both meals there have been great and this is another place I would certainly recommend.

On our last night there at a bit of a loss for where to eat we stumbled on La Tasca which is a Spanish style Tapas place, food was really good and some of the higher end places I've eaten in could learn a lot form the waitress that served us here (plus she was really fit).

Weekends without a doubt book , through the week you should have no worries.

Enjoy York its beautiful city :-)

Been there a couple of times before, but never at the weekend. Will get a few places numbers and maybe try calling and booking a table when Im actually in York.

And yeah its sure a lovely friendly place :)

Hi guys. Holidays almost over now, will Post a full recap when I'm home. Stuck between two resteraunts for tonight. Should I go to Oscars or Fiesta mehicana? In the mood for nachos this evening and both places do them.

But which is better? :)

Oscars make sure you go to the correct one , NOT stone gate yard! thats the the old building. Fiesta Mehicana last time I went was average.

If you want mexican go to plunkets (near the minister)

Enjoy and I'll look forward to hearing your write up :)
