Hi all,

Just had some absolutely fantastic news and as a result I will be moving to Nottingham for the immediate future.

I will initially be looking to rent somewhere but I have no idea what are the nice areas and what are the bad areas.

Budget for renting will be up to £1000 a month.

Any help much appreciated

Depends where you want to live, in relation to the centre, where you're working etc.

Avoid The Meadows, Sneinton, St Anns, Hyson Green, Clifton Estate etc. (not to be confused with Clifton Village which is a beautiful village)

A more affluent area (according to what I read on wiki before moving here) which is close to the centre is West Bridgford, quite a student area though (likewise is Lenton, another student area) as it's smack bang in between the two Unis, however, most of them (us) live on the edge of WB so if you venture in it's a very nice place to live.

It would be easier if you said where you need to be as there are some great and then obviously not so great areas. A few mates live in Hockley, centre of town which is fairly nice and then the Lace Market itself which is the better side of the Ice Arena, Sneinton being the other side.

Also, depends what you want, house or flat? £1000 will get you some of the nicest apartments in the city centre/ Lace Market. You're looking ~£700+ for a well situated 2bed apartment, with the penthouses costing a wee bit more. For your budget though, you could get a great house in WB or the surrounding areas.

/awaits textbook Rotty comments :D ;)

Flipping heck, coming south of the border?????
you feeling alright?

where the hell have you been?
I have sent you messages/msn... thought you were ignoring me!

get hold of a few notts estate agents and get them to send you some details?

Fakes,

Am very good matey - just landed a lovely job.

Got your messages but you had signed off by the time I saw them - nagging wife "come off that computer and watch tv with me/do dishes/kids getting up" etc.

Been meaning to give you a call but things have been hectic. Drop us a buzz later please :)

All,

Looking for somewhere outside city somewhere quiet but with facilities nearby and good transport links.

Wife and two young kids and a dog so family orientated non city centre would be ideal.

Ideally somewhere to the east of Nottingham - I will be working in carlton so ideally somewhere out in the country.

Looking at places like Bingham and surrounding areas - on the outskirts

In which case, hopefully Rotty will see this as he's more of the N'Shire guy whereas I know the Centre and surrounding areas more.

Bingham has good transport links in terms of the Rainbow buses, which pass through into the bus station should you require a bus into town.

For £1000 a month I would choose somewhere in "The Park", it's near the city centre but quiet and a rather good area. Further out as some have mentioned is West Bridgford. Some parts of Beeston and Wollaton aren't too bad either.

Burton Joyce is pleasant, to the east and has its own train station. I'm not sure what the availability of rented properties is like there though. I'm way north of Nottingham, near Sutton-in-Ashfield.

if you're working in carlton there are some nice bits in carlton and nicer a bit further out gedling/arnold way

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

Basically I have narrowed it down to a triangle between carlton, newark and bingham. Thats the area I think we want to be in.

If you're working in the city then Carlton will be your best bet as its about 10 minutes from town if that. Newark is also nice but a little further to travel, as is Bingham, but not by too much. I'm pretty sure there are bus links from those two places anyway directly into the city. :)

he's working in carlton

I'm living in Beeston. Renting a 3-bed semi at £495 pm.

I'm in Beeston Rylands, fairly quiet residential area, 5 mins walk from train station, 15mins walk from Beeston centre and bus station. To go to the centre is a 6min train journey, or say 10-15mins by car.

£1000 seems fairly high for rent in this area - if you have that much cash inflow a mortgage would seem more useful? Unless you're not staying too long.

Rotty lives mansfield end of notts though.

There's loads of areas that will fit your bill.

If your working in carlton then why not try a village location just outside of Nottingham, the village of Bunny is beautiful (i worked on Bunny Hall a couple of years back)
