You can buy 2 of Sennheisers high end headsets(PC350 or PC360) for that price. They will however require a headphone amp where as the Plantronics have it built in.

well, after some use of these, noise cancelling is amazing, sound quality and depth is incredible. much better than I anticipated.

they manage to feel substantial without being heavy, build quality is pretty much the toughest thing i have seen from a headset.

here are some unboxing pics.

Hi,

Since there are practically no reviews about these out there, if I am not happy with the purchase am I able to return these without charge (excluding delivery costs of course)? It's a lot of money to gamble on something that nobody has really tested professionally.

Cheers

Ok, stupid questions coming up.

Currently I run sound from the X-Fi titanium via 3.5mm down to a stereo amp which then powers the two speakers on my desk. I can then plug my Sennheiser 350s into the amp. The beauty of this set up is don't need to change any settings in games or on the PC, I play with speakers and late evenings etc I just plug the headphones in which mutes the speakers.

I'm guessing these being USB in effect replace the sound card acting as an additional sound device (meaning I can use the amp and speakers as normal I guess and just not switch that on when I want to use these). So far so good.

I'm not quite clear on how much "faff" is involved in switching though, do these show up as an additional sound device in windows? If I switch from normal stereo/X-Fi output to these for for evening gaming do I have to change settings in each games sound options to tell it to use the headphone instead (and the change settings again to go back to normal speaker mode)?

Do I have to reconfigure windows sound settings each time I switch between X-Fi sound card these to specify 2.0 channel sound, then 7.1 and then back again?

I guess I'm trying to work out just how much "faff" is involved reconfiguring windows and individual games every time I decide I want to go from normal stereo desk speaker sound via the X-Fi to these headphones and then back again. It's not a massive deal but I'm not sure I can be bothered to have to reconfig all my sound settings everytime I want to switch from speakers to headphones.

Any ideas oh wise OCUK?

these are not dedicated usb. the usb is for the optional sound card which produces the dolby 7.1. this would be useful for those without an already capable sound card. in your case you would just use them as a regular set of cans with the 3.5mm connections.

@ treznor - i am also coming from the 350's so i will tell you how much better (or worse) they are tomorrow.

as mentioned, USB is optional, so is the Phone/Tablet/MP3 Player attatchment.

it is essentially a stereo headset with a dolby USB box and a phone/tablet connector as options :)

These arrived this morning. Been using them for a few hours now and I'm not impressed.

Compared to my PC350's the only advantage to the Commander is that it blocks noise from the surrounding environment a little better.

Other than that, it's about on par with sound quality and much less comfortable to wear.

I know that they haven't been "burnt in" for long, but I couldn't imagine wearing them for more than an hour at a time.

Obviously, like with any audio equipment, the experience will be different for everybody, but for me, considering the price, the PC350's are better.

As a side note, the Dolby 7.1 USB sound card is excellent. Emulates 7.1 much better than my Xonar STX.

Great service by Overclockers overall!

See, I have a set of PC350s also and prefer these.

however, i have only used them in the office and not had a chance to game with them.

for music, they were superb.
