PlayStation 3 ... in stores EVERYWHERE .. November 2006 (100% Backwards Compatible)

I thought the games were coming on DVD and only the films would be on Blu Ray. hmmmm.

Sony have had a bad time lately with time keeping so I doubt it will be out then.

Only time will tell!

I mentioned this in the PS3 delayed thread, id be very suprised if Sony stick to a worldwide release. I may be wrong but i still expect Europe to have to wait the longest for the PS3. The are almost certainly not going to be able to meet demand much like Microsoft if they do go ahead with a worldwide release.

The service was created with the help of Sony Online Entertainment. Best of all, the "basic" service will be free of charge.

Like Xbox Live's Silver subscription then? :p

Be good to get some competition for the 360 in the shops by the end of the year :)

Cant say Ill be buying a PS3, as the 360 got their first - may be persuaded by a Revolution depending on what games are available and how this new controller works.

Is this the official thread now?

Well, I'm concerned. I know there's a few people on here who, like myself, are developers.

The notes for the speech say that in June, companies will be receiving Devkits. So if the unit is shipping in November, that's six months for developers to churn out to 'decent' games for the system.

Hope in hell springs to mind!!

Ill be looking forward to November then.. Im not one to be biased towards any console in general. so Ill be buying it when it gets released, hopefully on the 28th November cos I get paid then.. I have loads of money spare when I get paid so no saving for me.... Already got the 360.. and like a previous poster siad it will be good competition for the 360 for christmas...

Yes! I knew they would do it :D

/runs off to read some more

All the stuff over at ign seems to be just short snippets of what was said. Am I right in thinking that this conference was only mere hours ago?

nice money earner for the xmas ebay sellers then, just look at the 360 shortages and you can multiply that by any number as Japan will have its fair share. Still say that it won't be released till March next year.

Bigger Harddrive might make MS take note that they have to upgrade theirs before PS3 launch so i would expect some news from MS this summer about that side of things. As for PS3 Live if its anything like MS Live and the nutters you get on that well god forbid when the Sony kids are able to go Live.

Would also of liked to known the final Price though, bet its more expensive!, and i bet there is a fair few who now have 360's who will just wait for a decent price drop before even considering the PS3

It's undoubtedly going to be this year. No questioning it IMO.

For Europe? Guaranteed?

What I just heard on the radio said they might do a simultaneous release. That would be fantastic and I really hope they do, I'll believe it when I see it though.

has it been 100% confirmed? I can see the PS3 going the same way as the orig xbox with modders going mad on it lol

I cba to get 1 nothing game wise interests me on it and they dont really have that many "exclusives" now adays. As some 1 else said imagine the Live service on that  PS3 attracts all the lil sony loving playground kids no thanq!

Of course they'll do an international release. It'll have to be AT LEAST what Microsoft managed to pull out of their hats otherwise there's just no point even bothering. It will be this year I heard about a month ago that the final dev kits were already with developers?

the thing from IGN is all hardware related as well no footage of any games or anything, is there any news on the new controller then? Also i read a while back in that report some guy did that the final PS3 was going to get bigger?

Ken says that "all PlayStation 3 games will ship on Blu-ray [only!] to help prevent piracy," and that "initial BD-ROM production [is expected] to reach 2.5 million in Japan and Europe and 5 million in the US."

Is that going to be enough for simultaneous worldwide releases on games and movies?

Say the average gamer buys 3 games with a PS3, and Sony reserve 2 million disks for movies thats not much, particularly on a worldwide release. Especially if they're going to be pushing Blu-Ray players, they'll want to get as many movies onto the format as they can as quickly as possible and flood the market before HD-DVD.

I'll be amazed if they manage it, personally i think it'll be another PSP debacle, Europe will miss out yet again.

Lets face it when was the last time sony managed a smooth release in ANY country let alone WORLDWIDE lol

I will wait and see
