I'd imagine you do have an ipad though don't you?

Also, an ipad 2 is £400 - compared to say £260 for a 3G Vita. Considering the vast amount of additional functionality that the ipad offers... they are pretty comparable. iPad 3 won't be far off the ipad 2 pricing, despite any rumours you may be going by.

Another thing - I thought OLED screens were supposed to be great? The iPhone 4 display looks far better than the Vita... viewing angles make the Vita screen look awful in comparison!

No I have no need for a Ipad of any variety :) Never seen a 3g Ipad 2 for £400 either, still not to sure why you think Vita is competing with a tablet or mobile phone?

Viewing angles on the Vita are simply not an issue, not sure if you even have one or have used one with that sort of comment?

I really hope the Vita gets some decent RPGs to it. I saw that FFX HD was set for it. Would have loved to have had Crisis Core or Kingdom Hearts Birth by sleep shame they are not on the PSN store :(

£400 is for the ipad 2 4gb none 3g version or 8gb version mate, still an overpriced piece of pap.

And u say viewing angles on a vita is bad? lol you have just proved that you have not tried a vita

I've got a Vita yes and a 4S and a iPad 2. The display on the iPhone is better than the Vita. There's no doubt about it. There's instantly noticeable colour shift on the Vita but next to nothing on the iphone.

Ok, more like £500 for an iPad 2 in fairness.

You must have a faulty one then, best return it, still can you explain why you think the Vita compares to a phone or tablet?

The Vita screen is a Samsung SAMOLED panel, they have sharpness and colour banding issues but generally they are fantastic for videos and gaming.

I'm not sure why the iPad is even being mentioned.

I'd much rather have a Vita for half the price of a iPad then just use my phone for all the other things I don't really need.

I can assure you it is not faulty. The iPhone display does not suffer from colour shift to the same extent as the Vita. Tilt your Vita and you'll clearly see a green /blue colour shift. Also in the dark you'll see the uneven blotches the OLED has. The iphone does not have these problems - it's the superior display panel.

Sad to say but the iPhone's single speaker is also louder than the Vita's two. The 3G reception is also better on the Vita (which is amazing considering how bad the iphone is anyway!).

Another thing that really frustrates is how the iphone/ipad can load games like Infinity Blade/reckless racing 2 etc almost instantly, whereas on the Vita I have to wait 30 seconds for something like Frobisher says to load.

But anyway, i'm only mentioning the ipad as the Vita is being billed as the ultimate portable gaming device but within a month of it being on sale here, it's going to lose any technical advantage to the ipad 3. If Sony don't step up and bring more fully featured games like Uncharted to the Vita, rather than £8 versions of Angry Birds / other silly iOS style games, the Vita is going to sink without trace, leaving me £300 out of pocket for a paper weight!

Can't say I have noticed, or bothered what a Phone can do, I bought a handheld console :)

That depends on how you define superior. :)

I certainly prefer the IPS LCD iPhone panel to SAMOLED ones, but on the Vita SAMOLED is a far better option.

For some reason I don't ever seem to notice response times of displays  but is the SAMOLED vastly better in that respect to an IPS one? I can certainly agree for gaming it would make sense to sacrifice viewing angle for a faster response.

On a completely different note - I initially slated Fifa football's graphics saying the Vita game looked more like the iPhone version... since playing it a bit more, I'm going to retract that and say the Vita is certainly better... but still not as close to the Xbox/PS3 versions as I would have hoped.

I have an ipad2 and tbh as much as i like it if one had to go it would be the ipad. Typing this on my vita and it does everything i want from it, where as my ipad does everything well except gaming.

So you spent £300 without checking what it will offer?

Prob best you sell it now while market value is high if you are so unhappy with the Vita :)

You're certainly right in that there is a slight colour shift, though I only noticed it when I was sat examining the screen after getting my Vita. In game, I've never noticed it, but then again I guess I'm concentrating on the game.

Not seen any uneven blotches though on mine or my friends (and we did kill all the lights to see what it looked like in the dark). And I do mean the screen before I get any funny comments :P

You're certainly right about the load times though. Motorstorm RC take ages compared to the PS3, and Wipeout (at least the demo) takes 30 seconds or so to load a race. Someone needs to release a memory card with drastically faster read speeds, as it certainly seems Sony skimped in that area, which is poor considering what the memory cards cost.

You're just pulling stuff out your backside now.

iFans pickle my mind sometimes...

Just thought I would join in on this iPad vs Vita debate!

I have an iPhone 4S, iPad 2 3G and also a Samsung Galaxy SII as well as a Wifi Vita. Now I wouldn't consider myself a fanboy to any particular product, as I can see the strenghts and weaknesses in them all, and can enjoy one without having to slate the other.

In my own view, the Vita is by far and away the best way to play games. The screen is magnificent, I think on a par with the Apple products. It may not have a retina display a la iPhone 4S, but, in all reality, this is not needed. The screen of the Vita is sharp and clear, the colours stand out magnificently. Much like the Apple products.

So screen aside, yes, the iPad does a hige number of things that the Vita does not do, and some things better than the Vita - eg browsing the internet. I love my iPad for reading books, browsing the web, emails, etc, etc, so for these things it is much better than the Vita.

But I got the Vita for gaming. I like to play small games, like Angry Birds, from time to time, and the Apples are great for this. But I LOVE playing proper games, and not having the time to play on the PS3 as much as I would like (what with having a wife who watches the TV or else my son is on it), the Vita suits a treat!

I have tried playing games on the iPad, including the Final Fantasy ones and even fighting ones, and they do look good. I don't think they look as good as the Vita, but they do look good nonetheless. But, and a big but it is, they don't play great. Touchscreen controls on an action, RPG, driving, or indeed anythiing other than point and click or simple games is not a joy. A royal pain at times, which takes the enjoyment away from the games, thereby destroying the sole reason for playing games - fun. I am good with touchscreen devices, can type at speed on them, so I don't believe it is me not getting to grips with these devices, it's just that it's not fun playing great games on a touchscreen only.

So for gaming, the Vita wins hands down. I think other posters have got it right - these devices are not really comparible. I don't think comparisons to internal specs are needed, nor differences in prices of the gadgets or games. If you want something that you can do a number of things on, go with the iPad. If you want a dedicated gaming device that can do a lot more besides, it's the Vita.

More is the point, what slaphead plays his Vita to the side?

It's all very strange - Sony seem to have a history of crippling their products with random design decisions.

Why make the Vita's memory cards so slow?!

Why include an expansion port on the top (just like the PSP) that basically will never get used...

Why are the loops on the bottom of the Vita hollow on the backside? Surely they should be solid? (difficult to explain that one)

Why are the select and start buttons made difficult to see and press in the dark?

Frustrating!!
