Plea to ban motorists washing their cars in the street.

So I guess I should be pouring the bucket of dirty water at the end of a wash down the sink rather than the street drain.

I'll do that, but I won't stop washing my car, that's just madness.

He might have a point about the car wash places that have been springing up all over the place lately, they use existing drainage mostly and do they even need to bother checking what chemicals they're using on cars? Most of the ones around here have run off onto the main road etc.

generally, the water is reused hence a car cleaned at a car wash is never really "clean".

This ban is laughable, the guys that done some roadworks down my street dropped a whole bucket of tar and never bothered cleaning it up. Every time it rains, browny black slime flows into the drain... Great!

Highly doubt it will happen.

So it is essentially a ban on cleaning and looking after your car... unless you pay money and take it to a mechanical car wash or one of the hand wash places. Both options are likely to damage the paintwork and will never clean the alloys properly.

The whole idea is utter bonkers!

As mentioned by Rotty this is the law in Germany and has been for many years. IIRC they do have areas where you can take your car and wash it yourself.

Baring in mind that most non cowboy valeters use reputable chemical suppliers whose products are actually cossh exempt, I think the man is only after one thing and thats to encourage more profits for garage scratch-o-matics.

The Environment agency actually care less about the chemicals and more about the fact that brake dust and road dirt is going down the drain.... Errr hello, this would happen if it merely rains????

Again, its a case of "The Golden Rule" - Who has the gold, makes the rule.
