I have a Dell XPS Studio 13 and came across a MBP second hand and managed to get it. Meant to give it a go and see what all this Apple business was about, them sell it...a few weeks later and I still can't bring myself to sell it, god damn its lovely!

The XPS beats it hardware wise (C2D 2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM, 500GB Hdd, hybrid SLi etc) but after using the MBP for the past few days I'm finding the Dell machine less and less desireable. The multi-touch mouse pad is just amazing and iMovie...wow! Even with just 2GB RAM its chomping through a 17Gb AVI video without a hiccup.

I didn't expect this...and I can't justify keeping both machines.

except there's no confirmation of any kind that a new one will be out on the 27th. So don't go selling stuff expecting a release, wait for it to turn up first.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not disappointed with the performance that I need the latest and greatest, though it'd be nice ;) What do you think the new one (if there is one) will retail for?

They are awesome. I find myself doing simple tasks so much faster on the Macbook then my desktop PC. Things like browsing, music, movies, and all the rest of goodies the Mac has.

I also find it easier to multi task on the Macbook. More so when connected to an external monitor, keyboard and mouse. :)

My 13" uMacbook has pretty much replaced my PC in terms of usage now. I just find it better to use on a day to day basis than my Win7 machine. I crave for a 15" MBP now though as I'd like the added resolution boost.

I mostly prefer my 13" uMB over my old 15" MBP. It's lighter and I don't really miss the extra couple of hundred pixels as much as I thought I would. My main gripe is the speakers - the 15" is a lot better.

It is stunning to watch people who come from the PC environment and operate a Mac for the first time. Within minutes they are comfortable, and within hours they have a large part of the functionality scoped out, adjusted the preferences to their style and are up and away.

I always find it funny when people say they don't want to switch because they have to 'learn' a new OS. It takes about 10 minutes to work it out and away you go!

And I must say the most impressive thing is when older folks get a new Mac. You would expect they'd be hesitant and concerned and wanting to read a manual first (Manual? What is that???). Instead, they are the first ones to send around pictures of the grand kids and wanting to try Skype. You'd expect it from the teenagers, to take to Macs like a coal miner to Newcastle, but it is stunning to see how these machines are universally accepted as a lifestyle ornament, rather than a computing device.

Gotta love spaces. :D

Well done on giving it a try before forming your entire opinion of it. :)

Indeed, well done OP. It's not that often that a traditional PC user makes an opinion based on actual usage of a Mac. Usually they look at the hardware spec, then look at the price and then they go: "overpriced rubbish".

I'll give my views on a MBP tonight when I get home and open it. Mr Postman has apparently been delivering packages to my house while I'm at work :D

I love my MBP! I would probably still be a Windows guy if i hadn't given up on PC gaming but the 360 is more than good enough for me. Yes Macs are expensive but some are pretty good value - MBP 13, IMac 27 etc. Windows 7 has closed the gap on OSX though

Righto, I've just opened mine and started using it for the first time. I bought a 13" MBP from the MM. It is only three months old and really is like new (I realise that new models are probably about to be announced). My wife has used Mac's for several years and I never really got on with them. But this was probably because it wasn't my own machine and I didn't get to sit down and 'play' with it.

My first impressions are very positive. When I opened the box it just looked so lovely. My next impression was how quiet it is. It's silent. My old laptop wasn't noisy but this really is amazingly quiet.

On the slightly negative side I find the aluminium edges a little 'harsh' on my wrists but that may just be the angle I'm sitting. I know I'm going to find the keyboard slightly frustrating with the pgup/pgdown keys missing. But that's also the case on some Windows laptops and the gorgeous backlit keys more than make up for it. It's a lovely keyboard and, having used many Thinkpads, I'm particularly fussy over my keyboards.

The screen is gorgeous (although in all honesty I'd maybe like a larger screen - but that would make it larger and heavier of course).

Then there's the trackpad. Oh my. How good is that!

I'm loving this so far. It's certainly the best laptop I've owned and I'm looking forward to seeing how I get on with OSX over the next few weeks. I'm not an exclusive Windows user having used Linux a lot and even command line Unix in my previous technical jobs. So I'm quite at home adapting to different OS's.

It's a beautiful machine :)
