please dont judge- does a shoplifting fine show up on a crb check.

I wasn't involved in the details, but my caution didn't show up on my CRB when I got my first NHS job. CRB was obtained just less than two years after the caution was issued.

Far from it, but I like to offer suggestions when I can, in this case out of curiosity of why he had to take the item. He answered and is a perfectly reasonable reason for doing so. Fair play to the OP.

Also in a lot of threads members are commenting on others spelling and punctuation mistakes, he may not have realized the mistakes so I was just trying to help. I might make mistakes so feel free to correct me, just don't call me childish names.

My uderstanding is that fixed penalty notices (i.e. first time shoplifting/public order offences) would not show up on a standard CRB. They are designed to deal with first time offenders without taking them to the police station, cautioning them etc....basically they allow you a 'false start'.

However, this is just my thoughts so I may be completely wrong - in the worst case scenario I'm sure they would still take you on if you are honest about it from the start.

Why not call the CRB service direct and get a definitive answer to save you worrying? 0870 90 90 811. Or visit their website http://www.crb.homeoffice.gov.uk/default.aspx

so your saying i wouldnt, the app form dosent look extensive, its just asking my name etc, whether i am isa registered or some confusing stuff, my addresses etc and do i have criminal convictions.

the application is the same. Employment in a library requires an enhanced CRB.

It will show if you were official cautioned or fined by a court but I would expect that the employer will only require an explanation of the circumstances and you should be fine.

We employ several thousand people with similar convictions and some with worse, all the local authority is concerned about is convictions/cautions relating to vulnerable groups and some cases of violent disorder like GBH etc.

I'm pretty sure FPNs that are not motoring related and PNDs (which I suspect the OP would have received will show up on a CRB check. Cautions don't though IIRC, you won't receive a PND and caution for the same offence.

I have a family member who walked out of top man with an arm full of clothes. Didnt realise till she got to the bus stop. Obviously she went back.

Technically, even before she realised there wasn't any offence committed as there was no dishonesty.

I walked out of the local tesco with a basket of shopping, walked home put it in the kitchen.... about an hour later the missues asked why there was a shoping basket in the kitchen...

(I took it back and paid...)

It will show, but it doesn't follow from that that your application will be rejected. Hopefully you'll be given a chance to explain and it sounds like you learnt your lesson, so best of luck.

thank you everyone, youve been great. i will phone crb up themselves to double check, and ill phone my local police station up for advice, if it turns out it will come up, i will phone my library and just talk to them. if i get sacked then i will just have to move on.

Wow some replies here shows why OCUK has the reputation it does :p

OP: Was the fine by the police or was it the shop?

My ex ( my one and only dabble with dating a cop ) had a caution for shoplifting years back.

She is now a sergeant and explained the situation during interview. It happens and isn't neccessarily a bar to getting the job you are looking for.

I certainly wish you the best of luck with it.

(I threw the basket in the nearest river...)

It's you!

Must have been an 'interesting' relationship considering your current view on dating in the job.

It works for some Burnsy and good luck to them.

For me it puts your life in a goldfish bowl where people in the job can look in and I like my life away from work as you know.

Plus she was a bunny boiling cow !

:p

i believe honesty will get me far, so i will call the library today. ive already worked with them for a month, plus im a student myself, theyve warmed to me, im sure they will understand, well i hope :)

Under the circumstances, I think they will just let it fly over their heads and be grateful for your honesty!

I don't think anyone deserves to be judged by a mistake they did 2 years ago especially when emotions were at an all time high!
