Im using an ASUS 890GX motherboard and Geil 2x4GB RAM
aeb, which mobo are you using, is this one in my sig? if it is then state what voltage and latency you were running the ram this board is very picky on memory

Yeah he's using the same one Savvy.

I guess the pics will come up tonight when he's finished work/college or w/e.

just to keep all updated (seems only right as you guys r putting so much effort in)

I rang ocuk and the motherboard retailer today. Although ocuk was clearly a top guy he was just as stumped as i am. The retailer has no technical support, can only offer to take the motherboard back for testing - if it does work theyl charge me some stupid amount of money and even so it wont be ready for over TEN DAYS!

got a dinner to go to tonight......will be uploading some pics maybe midnight tonight

once again, thanks

Have you tried Asus technical support? If you have to RMA, normally sending things back to the manufacturer incurs no charge other than posting the item, you'd have to double check with them though if it comes to that.

Sorry about the delay guys.

Thats the general setup - as advised everything is unconnected apart from the cpu/fan/mobo power. 2 sticks of RAM are next to the cooler (ram being used is the one that first worked).

Thats it with power on - red light is the 'memory ok button', according to the mobo manual its on either because memory is incompatible or no memory is detected.

This is the layout which worked fine when first building the pc. Have also tried all other slots (when using first slot i used stock cpu cooler, fine as no oclocking is done)

ANY help will be VERY VERY appreciated. Asus support where pretty useless, only costing me a tenner in international call charges. Iv taken a gamble and RMA'd the mobo - will get charged if they test it and say its fine, so any help before monday will be great. If it turns out it does work fine I will be absolutely stumped.

Any idea what to do in either case?

Once again, thanks all

Same board, same problems I had only cleared up after cmos reset. Which brand, timings and voltage are you using on this board? (I can tell you this board is very very picky on memory)

1. Remove power power lead, remove all module and reset cmos (board will have to be set back to factory settings)
2. Place modules which worked before upgrade
3. Switch on and Boot up
4. If that doesn't work, remove battery from board leave battery out for 10mins, change jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3 wait 5 seconds and place back jumper, place battery and power lead.
5. Repeat step 3

EDIT are you using graphics card?

yeah, iv since learnt it is very picky on memory....however cant see why its not accepting the corsair memory which it worked fine with the first time :s

iv done 1-5 multiple times and no joy :(

Have tried with both my graphics card and with the onboard graphics....also tried pressing the 'mem ok' switch to 'reconfigure' the ram...but no joy.

Given youv got the same mobo u may really be able to help. Any other ideas? or anything you think i might be doing wrong?

Your new RAM runs at a slightly lower voltage, although it is only a slight change and your old RAM should still work. Where abouts do you live? Maybe another member would be willing to bring some RAM down and test it?

Hi mate, Sorry both sets of memory kits are not compatible with this board, dominators are not (confirmed by Asus themselves).

You are better off with 1333 memory and read this boards QVL, Kingston or Gskill will work better with it

Yeah i noticed the voltage was slightly lower, also neither are on qvl tech at ocuk said that both of them should be fine, and as you said dosnt explain the mystery as to why the old ram now dosnt work.

Unfortunatley im WAYYY out the way, in uni all the way in Aberdeen.......on a serious note if theres any member in aberdeen that would actually be willing to bring some RAM for a quick test I would be MORE than happy to pay any travel as well as being eternally indebted to them etc etc :)

Hmmmm.........that makes sense, as to why its not working. But dosnt quite explain why the corsair worked the first time :s

Would you recommend buying some new ram instead of returning the mobo?

Also, would i notice a big decrease in performance between a set of 1600 and 1333?

I have some new Crucial Ballistix Finned RAM (2x2Gb- Bl2KIT25664FN1608) That I could swap for the Dominators if they are compatible (this has lower latencies too). Obviously it is only 2x2Gb but it will allow you to test the motherboard without sending it off with some massive fee!

You will not notice difference from 1600 to 1333, except board will work properly and 1600 will boot from Dimms A2 and B2

If you want Corsair, vengeance memory will work with it but at 1333. Kingston or Gskill will work do follow QVL within manual or d/l list from Asus

They should work :)

Great - Gundog hold that thought, think il give the retailer a ring tomorrow to cancel the RMA for now and at least try this option before potentially spending money on a return and it turning out the mobo is working fine.

Does anyone know where i can find the full QVL - list in the manual is extremely short and simply says to check the website, where i dont seem to be able to find one.

EDIT: Found the QVL
