Hi there
I recently took a SATA drive out of an old pc i had because i wanted to use it in my new pc. My new pc had all its SATA ports filled so i bought a PCI-E SATA card. I conected it all up ok everything was fine . The instrutions said to use as a stand alone disk i had to create a Legasy Raid Group. I did this as per instructions but now this drive is not recognised by windows and in disk manager it is there but it is shown as Not inisialized and Unallocated. What ever the raid setup did it only took a few seconds so i think all my data it still there but i just cant get it. The setup did not say anything about deleting data. Please help this drive has photos and things on it .

Thanks

Joe.

try plugging the drive into one of the sata ports on the mb incase its a resctriction being imposed by the sata card for what ever reason (sounds like u set up some crazy raid stuff by mistake)

if still not working then you need to get into disk management and take the plunge to initialise it. then use some disk recovery software to rescue all the important info u had on there.

EDIT:

may not be necessary to use recovery software, check post 2 of this thread:
http://forum.soft32.com/windows/Recovering-uninitialized-NTFS-hard-disk-ftopict354553.html

"3.Typically if you have a drive thats become unitialized, you can choose to
reinitialize it and its fine. "

Hi thanks for you help.

I have found an answer. The raid set up deleted the partion info. So i rebuilt the partion with testdisk_win.exe freeware and all is fine. Big PHEW !!

Thanks

Joe
