Please help me trying to fix a laptop !

It's an Inspiron 1300 laptop running on windows.

It boots ok then when it gets to the desktop it freezes, no icons are displayed and the cursor won't move.

I spent all day running a Kaspersky boot disk virus checker to no avail

any ideas ?

are you able to get into safe mode with the laptop?

The same thing happens boots to desktop in safemode I can't move the cursor, and have to turn off.

I know it's not much help, but the easiest thing will probably be to just wipe it and install Windows again. Far better than wasting loads of time trying to diagnose what the problem is, and at least you know no other problems will creep up.

What's the best way to get the non backup up work of it. (not my computer !)

Do you think it's definitely a software problem.

Acronis bootdisk will allow you to access all drives. And you can copy required files and move onto a network drive/USB drive if you have one?
