Please help me with my Asus A8N-SLi Premium

I bought the following sysem a couple of months ago and recently added a X1800XT and now i want to tweek it and maybe even overclock it a little but i'm lost on the bios settings like memory etc.

Could you guys please help me setup my board and memory timmings (this board as a long list of memory settings and i have no idea where to put 2,3,3,6 etc). I would also like to get a reasonable overclock as well and again i'm lost in bios, What i really need is some kind person to show me the settings to change on this board as simply as possible, I would love to be able to run my CPU at 4800+ speeds for example

As soon as you see the post you will say oh my god this is a lot to read, yes to overclock your system and learn to maintain stability reading & learning how it works is the most important thing

Thanks but i know the basics of overclocking i just wanted to know the particuler settings of my board. I used to overclock years ago and thought i would just do a small easy overclock on this system but the bios especialy the memory settings are a little daunting :eek:

If someone could just tell me how to set the correct memory timmings for my memory in bios and what i should do with the bios to overclock my cpu to 2.4 or 2.5Ghz without needing to increase voltage or get too deep then i would be over the moon

Hi.

I have the same motherboard and memory as you and I have been dabbling in a bit of overclocking today. I have managed to get my 3700 San Diego from 2.2GHz to 2.7GHz and I ran Prime95 for 2 hours with no errors and I have played a few games like BF2 Special Forces without a hitch.. I will try a bit higher once I get some better cooling (Even though the standard cooling aint too bad tbh.. the max I have seen is 46 degrees)

To answer your question though, to set the memory timings, go into the bios and go to Advanced > CPU Configuration > DRAM Settings. Set the 1T/2T Mem timing to 1T, then set the CAS latency to 2, set the one below that (should be Trcd) to 6, then the two below that (Tras and Trp) to 3. That will be your memory timings done...

Im not too clued up on overcloking the CPU at the moment because its my first try today so I will leave that to someone more in the know.

I am writing this from memory as i am not totally familiar with this board yet. But if you want to push your overclock a bit you'll need to go to DRAM settings again and lower the memory index thing from 400 to 333. Then go out of DRAM settings and into jumper settings, it's about the 4th or 5th down, then raise your cpu speed from 200 to....well 220 should do it. You'll also need to fix the PCI speed to 33.33mhz from Auto(not the PCI-E option, leave that at 100.).

So far i have found this board to be very stable indeed. I've not needed to clear the CMOS once and i've for 2.6ghz, very good timings, 36C underload and Superpi 32m stable. I'll probably prime it a it when i get the chance too just to be sure.
