Plextor M.2 PCI-E SSD Drives Black Edition with adaptor due soon.

I am still waiting on the dates for the bare versions. These are PCi-e 2x2 versions so the speeds will be higher than standard SATA 3 connections and standard SSD's. The PCI-e 4x4 lane SSD's will be a lot quicker. These will be released around the end of march April sort of time. They might be delayed.

These are bare drives are handy for small form factor situations where you dont want to have to locate a 2.5" drive somewhere with power and sata cable running to it. For most people a standard SSD will be cheaper and perform a better bang for buck.

For people who dont have a M.2 socket which is a lot of people these are a great solution for people to upgrade and get a fast SSD. again no need to find space for a 2.5" ssd and run power and sata cable to it.

Thanks for that explanation. Helps a lot. At the moment they are a bit too expensive with regards to value for money.

yeah value for money wise they are not on a par with the older SATA tech, but, take a look back in the not so distant past and the price curve of SSD's. For what your getting, these are hitting the shelves at considerably less per GB than regular SSDs did when released.

More and more people will have an m.2 socket now as most H and all Z and X boards have sockets, with the exception of a coupl of the mITX ones.

they are ideal in SFF builds as mentioned.

with updated controller.same memory...and the improvement coming from the interface and mvme protocol...and less packaging (m.2 vs ssd)...i would hope them no more expensive...save perhaps a grace period to sell ssd stock in channel.
