Hi,

I've decided I need a PDA to help me organise myself and to stop me from getting lost! I've got about £200 to spend. Things I'd use the PDA for (in order, first is most important):

1) To-do lists, calendar, written notes and dictaphone "notes"

2) GPS and maps

3) Checking email (IMAP), browsing the web

4) Looking at photos and videos (I'm a film makers so being able to store little video clips and photos will come in very handy)

5) Reading PDFs and eBooks

A few specific questions:

1) I have an MP3 player that, when plugged into a PC, looks like an external USB hard disk. Can I plug my MP3 player into my PDA and use it as an external hard disk? For example, could I stick a movie on my MP3 player's HDD and watch it on my PDA? I understand that some PDAs can run their USB connection in either "master" or "slave" mode.

2) Are there any modern Linux-based PDAs? Has MS pretty much taken over the PDA market?

3) Does MS pocket Outlook support iCal?

4) Can I sync pocket Outlook with Thunderbird?!

5) A bit of web surfing shows that there are now MILLIONS of companies making PDAs! Are there any companies I should keep well away from? Are there any good review sites out there for PDAs?

Thanks loads,
Jack

Answering some of my own questions

First off, it looks like there are NO mainstream, Linux-based PDAs around anymore. That's a shame.

I've spent most of the afternoon researching and I think I'm going to go for the Mio P550. It has GPS, Bluetooth v2 and Wifi (b & g). Very nice and very good value (I've found it for £225 inc VAT).

For anyone who's interested, there's a good discussion of the P550 on this board.

Thanks,
Jack
