We have a toilet and the flusher is not working anymore... you can turn the handle and not a lot happens ... if you pump it a lot it will flush.

The question is how much should this cost to fix? Going to call out a plumber soon so would like an ideal what is a good price.

Thanks a lot

Reasonably it shouldn't be more than £25-30 quid, but rarely any plumber moves their van for less than a hundred these days, so make sure you get "ball park figure" before they slap you with callout higher than repair.

This is very easy to fix. what you need is a new "siphon", these are cheap as chips to buy and install.
Somthing like this clicky

There are a few diffrent types, but screwfix should be able to help with sizes

Hope it helps

it might not be the siphon. It could also be the WC cistern not filling properly. take the lid off and check that its filling up .
If its filling ok , before going out and buying a new siphon , make sure that there is an isolation valve on the cold feed pipe leading to the WC cistern as you will have to remove the Cistern to fit the siphon.
if you are in any doubt at all ,call a plumber.I would probably charge around £50 inc vat.

£50 to fit a siphon ?? thats expensive, the job should only take 30-45mins.
Ive done many of these myself and its really simple.

If there isnt a shut off valve dont panic easy to get around.
Here's what i would do.

1, Remove(unscrew) the float off the ballcock to give yourself a bit of space
2, Wedge a long screwdriver under the ballcock arm to hold it in the up position and it should cutoff the water
3, Flush the cistern to empty the system, and make sure no water is filling the system back up(as in No2)
4, Place a large bath towel or a bucket(if 1 will fit) under the cistern where the pipe is what goes to your lou. This is to catch any excess water out of cistern
5, Unscrew the pipe off the bottom of the cistern and remove the siphon
6, Replace new siphon using PTFE tape on the screw joints, and connect up the handle pull
7, Once your saticfied its all connected up, remove the screw driver from under the ballcock arm, but still holding it in the up position slowly lower it to allow the water to fill up the cistern slighly, and check for leaks around the screw joint under the cistern, if alls ok, then refit the float to the arm, and let the system fill back up, and re check for leaks again

Hope this helps
and noway would i pay £50

Its not that difficult a job. you can always try it yourself.

However if you want a qualified, time served, self employed tradesman ,who carries liability insurance and pays tax , who turns up on time ,and supplies the part, And does the job properly you are going to be looking at around £50 inc vat .

alternatively get yourself beret , change your name to frank spencer, and follow points 1-7 above ;)

Edited that for ya ;)
