Hi,

My plusnet VDSL modem power supply just died, replaced the psu with a similar spare but got me wondering about a VDSL modem router in one unit as opposed to my current vdsl modem and separate router (Netgear 7800).

What would people recommend as a all in one box replacement - its for a largish 4 bed house - lots of connections with having two kids and wife with mobiles and tv.

regards,

Matt

I wouldn't. Your current set-up is flexible and allows you to change as your needs grow. Despite what you think, your device count is low, even if we assume every member of the family has a PC, laptop, tablet, smart TV, smart speaker and mobile along with a few IoT devices, it's still a trivial number well within the capability of what you have now. If the issue is coverage, an AP hard wired to a central upstairs location will likely make a massive difference, if you are averse to wiring then you are not going to like the next suggestion as mesh set-up with wired backhaul, mesh with dedicated wireless backhaul isn't cheap, but it's the next best option and will be OK in most situations, cheap mesh is just nasty as everything shares the same radio. If it's speed, that's usually dictated by your connection, is FTTC available? It's likely going to be faster as would FTTP/cable.
