Hey, im really out of touch with hardware these days, but ive seen this for what seems to be a good price.

Will this perform well and last me a while, when coupled with a decent c2d setup?

Also, should a 480w psu be good enough to run it.

Depends. 20" or higher monitor and you really should be looking at the 640MB version.

But anything smaller than that, this is a good card. :)
 
Think ill only be using a 19" or summin to be honest.

Although above 20" woulda been a nice future possibility. Do they struggle at the higher resolutions?

Bear in mind that im going from a 6800gt lol
 
It's a serious boost from a 6800GT, pretty much a two generation jump. :)

This card has the same core as the 640MB version, so it's pure pixel pushing power is massive. But it's really not helped by the lack of VRAM. At lower resolutions you'd be hard pressed to find any difference, but at 1600x1200 with full details the lack of memory starts to show.

I'd have a look at some benchies, i've never been a fan of this card i'm afraid, I know it's great at lower resolutions but with 20" and bigger screens being so cheap, it doesn't exactly leave much room for maneuver.
 
Ah right, well the thing is, im on a tight budget to be honest.

My girlfriend is in florida on holiday for the next two weeks, i would ask if she could get me something better out there, but i wouldnt know how to bring it back?

Easy. Say it's a gift for someone's birthday. Customs will just wave her past.

Plus at their prices you could probably stretch to a GTX. :)

Is it that straight forward? lol

Would she be able to keep it in a box etc. I dont wanna get stitched up on tax and charges ! :)

There was a thread about this in GD recently, and there are a few dating back as well. Might be worth looking through those, the general opinion is that as long as you don't take the urine you should be okay.

They may want to look inside though - anything circuit board-like travelling on a plane? :D
