Pokémon - why is it so popular?

Along with Robot Wars Pokémon is one thing I'll never grow out of. I still play it on the DS and would argue they're the best games ever. :)

I mean, it's huge. It's loved all over the world but I have never understood why, it's just so bizarre.

Please explain why it's so good. :p

Only people who played Red/Blue back in the day will truly understand Pokémon!

Pokemon Cards, everyone wanted Charizard. Those were the days.

I remember getting one of those (after months of looking) and then getting another the day after :D

hmm used to watch it however has to be said never did the card games but did in fact manage to level up all of the Pokemon (even the legendary dog and legendary bird) Gold on the GBA...

Memorable moment was when i saw one of the legendary pokemon and managed to catch one in a normal ball on the first throw!

I'm playing through Emerald atm, and, I honestly don't know why it's addictive. It's on my phone, so it's always there if I have time to kill, much like a gameboy would have been there some years ago ?!. Either way, tis a gg :).

The original gameboy game was awesome!

I also played as jigglypuff exclusively on the n64 game smash brothers, but it was stupidly unbalanced in his favour as he was the best by miles.

I was very sad when they toned him down in the sequel games, grrr!

My Son used to love Pokemon, I couldnt see the appeal then, or now.

Psyduck was quite cool though, I mean a duck that isnt it a duck, who's special power is the fact it has a constant headache.

Mental.

And so on. I was one of the original Red players! Got a Gameboy Colour, just so I could play it!

in a gameplay sense there was simply nothing quite like it at the time. The game was a proper adventure that could be tailored to each players interests and strategies.

To me the games are brilliant, but the full potential of the concept hasn't been tapped. A MMORG pokemon game where you have your own adventure, can roam around and challenge other online players etc would be the game at its greatest, and the game it should have always been.

Unfortunatley nintento doesn't, and is unlikely to ever, see it that way. They have a huge money making machine, and they will make it stick to thier consoles for dear life. The best we can hope for is an online equivalent on one of thier platforms :(
