Better that than buy a brand new £30k police spec passat on top of its running costs. None of the reasonably fast police cars are quite what you would call economical, especially during high speed persuits.

From what I can tell from my local police force, all these cars that aren't the usual Ford Focus or 5 series are for Special Branch/CTIU. A while back I was overtaken by a string of cars with hidden lights non of which were the same make, model or year.

Sounds like he's a community first responder like west on here (Clicky). Except obviously this guy was a trained doctor prior to being a community responder.

Not sure? I think all tractors are limited to 56. They just accelerate a lot quicker without a trailer.

The cops up here ran a confiscated Audi Q7 that they got under POCA. It was used by the Gangs Task Force in the East end of Glasgow where its owner (till he was shot) and the gangs could see it... It had graphics saying how it was seized to let others know what may happen to their cars etc.
They only ran it for a couple of months as a PR and deterrent exercise
So its not that it "doesnt" tow anything, but more that it physically cant?
A tractor unit weighs 7-10 tonnes, your driving license allows you vehicles up to 3.5T doesn't it?

Exactly.... You still need a Class 1 (and be over the required age limit etc) to drive a tractor unit regardless if it is not towing anything IF it still has the fifth wheel attached as it retains the ability to tow.
Removing the fifth wheel means it cannot tow making it just like any normal vehicle i.e. only limited to its weight category...
The restrictions are bonkers TBH. You have to be 21 (generally) if you want to drive an articulated lorry yet, at 16, I was towing a fully laden 40 foot trailer (similar to an artic trailer) on the road. The only difference being, I was towing it with an agricultural tractor and had passed the DVLA tractor test on my 16th birthday WITHOUT towing anything....

They also get D1 category as standard....
Edit: Also, any licence holders that passed their test after 01/01/1997 CANNOT tow a trailer behind any vehicle until they have passed another test...

There was a Q7 with ABT Bodykit go through my local BCA Auction in the police section, anyway it was fairly obvious that this car had been confiscated - A guy I know was DESPERATE to buy it and I mean DESPERATE!
I bought it and he paid £28.5k for it
He said from 17, though. Anyone with that license is going to be what, 30 at the youngest?
