Police operation in progress sign??

I keep walking past a blue metal sign with "Police operation in progress" which keeps moving its way around our industrial block.

I see them at garages sometimes too.. but I have never seen police anywhere near them?

Is it a deterant? or is there some kind of secret surveillance watching people who rag it away after work in there cars?

We get them around here too, also with an absence of obvious police presence.

There's one in the Shell on the Peartree roundabout... I wonder if it's because they have ANPR stuff set up or something?

I saw a few of these are where I live a few months ago. Leicestershire police. Again, no police anywhere near them. The signs were there for several weeks.

This street had a "covert police surveillance" sign for a while.

Yup, spotted that..

I am talking about Bicester with this one, infact there are 3 in Bicester that I have found.... could be that the Local police station was doing training?

There was one that I kept driving past in Kidlington for ages but they took it down not long ago.

Nobody actually knows why they appear and disappear and what they actually mean, it seems - are they meant to scare criminals off or something?

Criminal 1 : "Hey man, check this out... why could totally nick this bike!! No pad lock or anything!"
Criminal 2 : " Holy **** dude, don't touch that, there is a police sign across the road which has been there for like 5months now, are you INSANE!!"

Digging this up again...

There was one chained up at the entrance to Kidlington Sainsburys the other day, no sign of any Police that I could see.

maybe they use them to play a game of hide n seek or something for new recruits.

A veteran puts them out n the rookie has to go find them within a certain time limit

They do it and monitor at certain intervals, i.e. chucking out times in town they will be vacant, early mornings they will be there, sometimes spying on evenings rush hour.

Plus, there has to be a sign within i think 10 - 100meters of any speed camera, so they put it up incase they decide to get ther speed gun out..

I wana be in the police..

ahh makes sense about the speed camera...

The one in Bicester is close to a speed camera, the one in Kidlington is close to a speed camera.

But not so sure on some of the other signs I have spotted at garages?
