Police raid house because of electric heater.

Not really a big deal - they apologised, I'd rather the police cause a bit of inconvenience doing this sort of work which can potentially lead to bigger things, than pulling people over for doing 31mph.

It was in Bradford though, so 9 times out of 10 it probably would have been a drug den.

Joking apart, how many times are these sorts of things successful? How often do they find a huge drug farm?

There's a reason these warrants get signed off, and it's probably because on balance the police are usually right.

We were debating relative dangers, both tobacco and alcohol are dangerous. There is clear evidence that cannabis can cause mental issues in some people. Therefore it is dangerous. Therefore you are wrong.

to SOME people, not to most though

Nuts can cause death for some people, are nuts dangerous?

Um, both acts break the law, yet you are fine with someone doing 31 in a 30, but not fine with someone growing and using cannabis?

You have a bizarre set of morals.

Not really, as long as their actions agree with my views of what is right or wrong (and growing and using cannabis is not something that I see as wrong) ...

What the "law" says is immaterial to me, the law is merely a tool that politicians (and before them kings, emperors, etc) use to control the population

The first police forces (post Roman times) started as private enterprises between people to protect them and their property, unfortunately it has now turned into a tool for governments to use ... which is WRONG. The police are there to serve the people, the army is there to serve the government

The police and army are not really comparable.

To play devil's advocate, having your home raided and searched by the police is one of the most traumatic experiences and gravest invasions of privacy an individual can undergo at the hands of the state.

You could potentially argue, as you appear to be doing, from a utilitarian perspective that the long-term benefits of such tactics as these outweigh the costs (i.e. false positives), but let's not characterise raiding the homes of innocent people as "a bit of inconvenience".
