Hello all, first time thread creator - so don't bite me!! :D

anyways, story is driving along at 5am this morning, and policeman pulls me over and asks for licence - all present and correct.

So I ask the question "what is the reason I was pulled over for?" and he says "because he can, there doesn't have to be a reason."

Fair enough I said.

He looks on my parcel shelf and scouts a bullet belt (made of plastic - for fancy dress etc) and quickly asks me to open the boot. He then says that they are illegal to which I said they weren't, and he then decided to do a full search of the car for no apparent reason!!!

All in all - he wasted 20mins of my life that I am not going to get back!

Anyone else get any stupid policemen over the christmas period?

A few years ago a friend of mine got pulled over for "dim headlights", they stuck him in a back of a van for 30 mins while they searched his car then let him go on his merry way.

Apparently the cops don’t have enough work to do to see them through a shift.

Whenever I hear stories like this I can't feeling that there's a lot more to it than that. Like just how ****y did you friend get when pulled over?

As for the OP, the police do have to have a reason, but they don't have to tell you what it is. Again, without being there we are only getting one side of the story.

Agreed.

There are always two sides to a story..... and saying the cops have nothing to do at this time of year is a bit ridiculous. Its one of their busiest times due to all the drunks / fights and the general attitude of people around the xmas hols (when most people are agressive/rushing/and still drunk from the night before)

I think if we got the full story, he probably assumed you were driving erractically (and he assumed it was caused by you taking drink or drugs - and it was 5am) - but once you asked him why he pulled you over, he decided to take a look around the car to see how you reacted. Nothing wrong with that.

First of all your human rights have been abused, you should claim. You will probably be able to get at least one billion pounds if not more (20 mins of your time as you're such a useful member of society is gonna cost them big time). At the very least the policeman should get 5 years for human rights abuses.

Time for you to make an appointement with your solicitor.

when he asked you to open the boot you should have rapped out the lyrics too jay z s ninety nine problems :p

in seriousness though he was probably fed up after a long nightshift.

Lol, I would just say: Give me your I.D., I will report this event to the police HQ or something. On what basis do you have to pull me back and search my car? I am entitled to know the reasons.

Honestly, people are always complaining that there's no police about doing their jobs, then when they try to you jump on thie back!

Report a policeman for doing his job?

I had a Police Officer threaten to beat me when I was like 14, just because we were throwing them little Snap things that make a bang when you throw them, like 25p for a small box of them.

Ive been pulled for doing 30 in a 30 once...
I was told "just because it's a 30 it doesn't mean you have to go that fast!"
After my 10 minute lecture I then sped off at 15MPH with him right behind me for about half a mile!

If it was inapproriate to do 30 then he's well within his rights to pull you over for a chat.

There are NSL roads around here that you could technically do 60 on. You would, however, be an absolute idiot to do so.

their has to be a reason, did you get his name number , the station and reason, then you should ask for a copy of the report. If everyone did this then they would stop people less.
"they must record all the details of the stop and search on a form which they give to you"

If you were a criminal and had a gun, he would have found it... tbh... justice would have been served and he would have got a healthy pay rise, so just let them do their jobs, you encourage them to stop such things and someone gets hurt...

For all you know there might of been something happen in the area earlier that morning and they are performing random checks on vehicles?

I wouldn't get too bothered if I was pulled over however as I know I wouldn't have anything in the wrong.

I have absolutely NO sympathy for people who get pulled over then come and moan about how much of their time was wasted.

I firmly believe there is no such thing as a completely random pull over by the police - you have to be doing something to attract their attention, probably your driving style, even if not neccesarily illegal.

I believe I can say this with a reasonable amount of confidence becuase I have never, ever, been randomly pulled over by the police despite driving around in cars which would often be tricky to insure at my age, often late at night, often with others in the car with me, and until recently, in a modified car as well. So thats all the stereotypes people reckon police pick on.

Even since I got the 5 Series I still don't get pulled over, despite apparently looking like I'm 12 :p

Drive sensibly and normally and they won't hassle you.

I got pulled over when i was 18 for turning left following traffic through the lights
at a T junction, and there excuse... i turned wide at the junction, when my older sister said id been pulled over because i was a young lad in a popular boy racing car at the time the officer just smiled and grinned at the officer accompanying him. Still no harm done id done nothing wrong showed me paperwork and went about my business but i do beleive some police have nothing better to do at times
