Sadiq Khan: Met Police could lose thousands of officers
Posted at7:39

Reuters

The Metropolitan Police is facing the loss of thousands of front-line officers under Conservative spending plans, London mayor Sadiq Khan has warned.

He told BBC Breakfast: "Under a new Theresa May government, as a consequence of the cuts to our policing budget, we'd have fewer police officers and all the experts say that one of the ways we counter terrorism is by fantastic policing in the community.

"The Conservative plans mean another £400m of cuts to the Met," he said. "I'm simply not willing to stand by and let this happen."

It looks to me like this is starting to mentally affect Abbott now and she is a nervous wreck every time she gets interviewed now. Not conducive to an impressive showing.

8:30 mark. Finally someone with the backbone to talk about it!

The suppression of that report which has apparently been finished but not published for 18months is outrageous, its blatantly damming of the current government. I'm surprised the Lib Dems aren't making a bigger song and dance about itbas they were the ones who demanded it during the coalition government.

The right wing will try their hardest to keep the focus on abbot as labours weak link, while trying to detract from their own weak link: Their policies!

Emily Thornberry and Shami Chakrabarti are probably very happy that Abbott has done so badly as it's keeping the spotlight off of them. Seriously, the people surrounding Corbyn are terrible.

I quite like Corbyn now - having previously stated that I found him unelectable. Seems to speak well and talk sense. Very principled and sticks to his guns rather than panders. The more I see of him the more I like him, whereas the exact opposite is true for Abbott.

If it weren't for Abbott I would deffo be voting labour. I'm torn now between lab, lib dems and green. It surprises me that they don't get rid of her because, when people must think as I do, it's surely an excellent way of getting more votes.... too late for that now though.

Like @Nitefly post above;
As I've replied previously, if it was not for the likes of Abbott and Co; irrespective of some of the fantasy manifesto promises (renationalisation of transport and utilities) I would on this occasion vote for Labour but I just cannot do it with them on board.

 Yesterday he called for Theresa May to resign, then a few hours later recanted those calls. A few months ago he was firmly against police shooting terrorists, now he's all in favour of it. Theresa May got called 'weak and wobbly' for less. I don't think the Labour manifesto is worth the paper it's written on, Corybn is merely a political opportunist of the worst kind - he'll say anything to achieve power then do what he's wanted all along.

What about may? No election.. there you go an election? That's just one of many examples. People change their opinions it's very normal.

Imo there's no good party right now, there's just the best out of the worst and labour in this case has the edge over cons imo, simply because may is just a snake. I can't stand her face and the way she deals with things. Corbyn seems to be more down to earth and on this planet.

You've got me to an extent if that's true - but within a 3 minute search I looked at the article in the sun that had a headline suggesting he has backtracked and it pretty much said nothing of the sort. So much so I had to re-read it to be sure.

If anything it appears he is asking people to take it into account when voting. If that's the extent of his backtracking.... errr, k. A million miles away from having no election to calling one :p

What I mean is backtracking on key principles. He was very firm on his nuclear weapons stance on question time when he could have dodged the point by pandering, but he didn't.

I was listening to Boris Johnson being interviewed on Radio 4 just now. Jees, all he wanted to do was attack Labour. The interviewer kept trying to get him to answer specific policy questions but he just kept turning it around and making it about Labour. You could tell that the interviewer was getting annoyed as he just kept talking over her all the time.

The Manchester Muslim community reported Salman Abedi for extremism at least five times.

♦ The United States warned us that Abedi was planning a terrorist attack against the UK.
2666.png
♦ Abedi was known to have been in the lawless terrorism breeding-grounds of Libya and Syria.
2666.png
♦ Abedi was allowed to pass through the UK border unhindered.
2666.png
♦ After the attack the government claimed the secret services were too busy to watch him.
2666.png
♦ Khuram Butt was reported for extremism by the Muslim community several times.
2666.png
♦ Butt was such a high profile extremist he was featured in the Channel 4 documentary "The Jihadis Next Door"!
2666.png
♦ The Tories were repeatedly warned that they were neglecting their duty to protect the public with their ideologically driven police cuts, but they ignored the warnings and carried on cutting.

It's incredible that there's not mass public pressure on Theresa May and Amber Rudd to resign immediately, let alone that more people are apparently preparing to vote Tory now than in 2015!

But funding for counter-terrorism has gone up.

So the Torys plan to cut ANOTHER met 12800 officers, reducing it's strength by 40%. Well done May you ******* lunatic!

I kinda am starting to question her ...

She might be doing it on purpose, calling the election, getting labour to win and then sitting back and watching them deal with EU as that is such a massive task and it'll difficult to please everyone so she's simply moving away to not tarnish the name of her and cons in general.

I am pretty convinced Abbot will go if Labour get to form a government, send her out to spar with Boris, the two are becoming worthless anyway so just nullify each other with some useless narrative

No way do i see them getting a majority, probably a confidence and supply agreement with the SNP (maybe with a topup of a few other minor parties if needed)

I don't doubt for 1 minute that Blairite MPs will see the light and put themselves in the running for top jobs
