Poll: Poll: Will you be buying a 2080Ti/2080/2070?

Which card will you be buying?

The point I was making was you could buy a top monitor AND a great GPU to run it on AND a chair to sit and play in....for less than one 2080Ti card.

Gsync monitors will add an extra £200 to the cost of your purchase due to the Gsync adapter needed, over the cost of a freesync monitor.

I know but i think you recommended that monitor in another thread me thinks.

Of course one can be an enthusiast but why shafted?

Because you paid £1200 for a graphics card :D

so getting shafted doesn't work here (surprised I needed to explain it).

Because this....

You would need to be brain-dead or just stupid with money to purchase these cards at such prices.

I'd love to see the BOM cost of these cards, they're probably £50 higher than 2014 releases due to memory chips going up, the rest is sheer profit.

I had money sitting aside for an upgrade but this is just ridiculous, nvidia need to get off their high horse. PC gaming has always been more expensive but not this bad. Back in 2014 you could build the best part of an entire high end machine for that price.

I've always had high end PC's but was sat playing God Of War on a borrowed from a mate PS4 Pro on my 4K TV last night struggling to wonder why anyone in their right mind would pay £1200 for essentially the same thing with more frames that'll in reality, will make very little to the overall experience.

Then again Apple did this for years and the iSheep kept on following, paying hundreds every year for essentially no improvement....guess nvidia have taken a leaf out of their book!

These are way above enthusiast, mainstream is around 200-300 as seen in steam surveys, enthusiast is what upto 500, above that was the high rollers on the ti's, now we are O_O

Well you have clearly justified your reasoning to yourself on why you won't be purchasing a 2080Ti. Not sure if I am brain dead or stupid with money, so will let all the others here decide!

My favourite evening tipple used to be a 1ltr bottle of Baileys and a bottle of Whiskey (mixed about 60/40, gives the baileys a good kick) with ice. I fancy a go at that m8.....if I still drank spirits ;) :D
I am off to Rotterdam on Saturday with a few mates/family and we start drinking at 7:30 in the morning and generally finish about 1am. I couldn't do what you do though, so you are not allowed to play :D

I certainly will and at my ripe old age and working environment, it would take a lot more than these herberts to phase me :D :D A shame still, as I have always seen OcUK as an entusiast site and a shop that sells enthusiast products, so quite surprised to see so much negativity to those buying but whateve's.

Hey Greg, long time no speak! How's you?

Quote in bold: I think we're witnessing that people have limits, and rightfully so. It's us that cannot grasp that the very few condone such prices and fear that it'll get worse next time (and it will) because buyers show Nvidia that they can get away with it. The amount of "negative" (positive from my perspective) comments prove how outrageous the pricing situation is.

I have to agree with some peeps here that one cannot have made an informed decision since we know nothing about the performance. An informed decision, by default, requires all information to be present.

I'm the same m8, can drink beer til it comes out of my ears as it just doesn't go in fast enough :D When you start mixing stuff up then it becomes a PAARRRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p

Same for the £1k iPhone. I'd not want to pay that for something I could break so easily, and also for such a small screen device. I still find phones a PITA to use. For many however it's the centre of their life :p. Some will think insurance will cover breakages but insurance is yet more money to pay (and a waste of money too for most)
I hope nobody complaining about GPU pricing owns one of those £1k phones :D

Just read this over at PC gamer:

https://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-rtx-2080-analysis/

Reads like Nvidia propaganda.

Nvidia showed some examples of improved image upscaling quality, where machine learning that has been trained on millions of images can generate a better result with less blockiness and other artifacts. Imagine rendering a game at 1080p with a high framerate, but then using the Tensor cores to upscale that to a pseudo-4k without the massive hit to performance we currently incur. It wouldn't necessarily be perfect, but suddenly the thought of 4k displays running at 144Hz with 'native' 4k content isn't so far-fetched.

Doesn't matter what 4K performance is like then, because you can upscale with Tensor corez! :D

I am good bro cheers and you?

I have been around hardware since the days of the pet, spectrum,c64 and always been into gaming and tinkering. The Amiga days were my favourite and some great titles back then and demo's were amazing. The scene used to do some amazing gfx with some amazing music and these would blow my mind but the one thing I wanted to see more of was RayTracing, as when I first saw what was possible, it blew everything out of the water. Motion capture, roto scaping, parallex scrolling, I have seen them all and it has driven the gaming industry forward. I agree that the price is insane and I can appreciate why people are angry but at the same time, don't direct the anger at those who have purchased. As for my informed decision, I base it on a knowledge of what is what with a GPU and whilst I can only come up with general figures that are/will be inaccurate, I do have a rough understanding. And even then, it is the fact of RT that I have purchased this card. I want to see real time rayracing in games and it is a big thing for me.

Nope, high end PC gaming is becoming the preserve of the rich man. Sony and MS must have ****** themselves with laughter when they saw those prices. More console converts.

A lot of people’s budget for their entire rig is the price of a 2080Ti.

Yup. Unfortunately there are plenty of idiots out there willing to pay silly money for them.

What alternative do we have? This is extremely cheap compared to the alternative RT cards. For those of use that use RT this new card not only saves a large amount of money, it will save a massive amount of time as well. Why are we idiots for saving money and saving time?
