Poor performance of x1900XT in BF2

I'm generally pretty happy with my x1900XT and my 3DMark06 looks fine but I get awful FPS in BF2. I get about 100 on an empty server but I get more like 20-30 when it's busy on some maps.

Any ideas why this could be? It runs other games fine...

(Before anyone ask, yes it's ran through the re-optimisation process in BF2)

Lag does not affect FPS.

CPU bottleneck.

I've gone from 2.4ghz X2 to 2.8ghz Conroe and my min FPS on 64 player servers has gone up from about 30 to 50.

Overclock the CPU and you should see some improvement

CPU bottleneck... that's what I am thinking is the problem as I am only running a 64 3200+.

However, i'm getting a X2 4400+ next week so I should see an improvement. (Can't afford a new mobo etc for a Conroe)

What graphics card do you have Concorde?

mm i have a 3200 athlon 64 now ocd to 2.5 gig and was soon to order a x1900xt for bf2 as well does this mean im gonna need to upgrade cpu as well ? i hope i dont have to just yet im on skt 939 with 2 gig of ram very soon ?

Anyway... As Concorde said, you should try giving your CPU an overclock as when I had an X1800XT and 3400+ I noticed a big difference when the CPU went up to 2.7GHz. Failing that, the only thing I can think of is some sort of problem with the hardware itself somewhere.

Or it could be typical BF2 Patch Syndrome.

That's the exact same upgrade I'll be doing in about 2 weeks. Will be interested to see how much it helps.

you need 2Gb ram for BF2 to run smooth on high settings. You have 2Gb right?
