poorly rocky

Its not that i havent tryed, and i do have pet insurance, i have rung around a number of vets and they wont do a payment plan =[
i have just taken him for a walk and he got a bit more lively but has just come back and got in his bed.
we have now found a vet that will see him but the problem is they think he will be kept in and thats what i cant afford!
also there is no way my dog would be taken as neglect

If you can't pay, find someone else that can and wants the dog on a more permanent basis.

Letting him go to another home has to be a far better alternative than letting him suffer.

If you neglect to treat the dog, the condition worsens and someone reports it. The RSPCA will investigate, obviously having the dog taken and being prosecuted is the worst case scenario. But surely this is enough incentive to get things sorted quickly.

If you have pet insurance why do you need to do a payment plan with the vets?

And this.

I somehow doubt the vet fee's will come to that amount for impulse, not on the first visit anyway.

For a first visit for Max to be diagnosed with Pano was 50 quid vet fees, 30 for Metacam injections, 40 for metacam syrup, re-feral visit for X Rays in a week, 350, + over night stay 100 or so then the cost per xray and more follow up visits + 6-12 months of metacam

If it is something serious or deemed to be serious it adds up very very quickly.

I was lucky to have the cash spare for that but it still stung having it hang over me for 4 months all to be told my dog had growing pains.

/edit :- My point is if the dog has bloat/torsion, ate something it shouldn't have (like string or something that will destroy his insides) will add upto a lot in what can be fatal regardless.

Because most insurances will ask you to pay the fees up front and can take months to claim back.

My last claim with Max took 4 months for close to a grand.

mine don't I give the insurance form to the vet and they fill it in and send it off...

there have been times when the vets chase me for a form because they need payment.. I jsut order a form, give it to the vet they fill it in and I pay the excess to the insurance company

I'm with direct line pet insurance...

This is why I'm a firm believer that if you're going to take on a commitment like a pet, you should have contingency in place, whether it be in the form of savings or an arranged overdraft, or get an insurance policy that is going to suit your needs, instead of getting the first one that comes along because you get a 15% discount, free gift or cashback.

At the end of the day, you're dealing with a life, not a car which you can discard if you can't afford it, so you should make the appropiate plans.

Anyway, I'm deviating from the main topic.

Get the dog to the vet or somone who can help.

Sorry just to figure out, who/what are you complaining at here?

If you won't take your dog to the vet because you're too skint, you run the risk of having to cough up even more than the treatment would cost, as others have mentioned already. If the illness takes a turn for the worse, the book will be thrown at you, along with all the associated legal costs.

PDSA man, yellow pages google it, they have them all over the place..

hi there
I am currently unemployed but am not seeking council tax or housing benefits therefore the pdsa cannot help me,

If i was in the OP's situation i would just take the dog to the nearest vets & say nothing until after the vet has looked at my dog. Then i would arrange a deal to suit us both but Nothing in the World would make me leave my dog suffering.

I have to say this Really bothers me so i want a post later stating that you have got him to a vet.

why have you not signed on then? how are you paying your rent/ OR DO YOU LIVE WITH SOMEONE THAT WORKS, LIKE YOUR PARENTS OR A SPOUSE? because you cant live on nothing, so we need more details.

I can provide some basic details, as I know Kayleigh.

She lives with her mum I believe, who works. I don't know about the circumstances that made her be out of work, but to be honest, its not really any of our business :)

if you live near Manchester then Salford vets is for people who don't have any cash. Its the one where Rolf Harris did the TV series.

think this is the one - 411 Eccles New Road, Salford, Manchester, Greater Manchester M5 5NN payment is on a donation basis as far as i know.
