Porsche 911 74' RSR Replica build

Who cares if he doesn't make loads of money from it or doesn't plan to? It looks like it's going to be cool.

Tell you what Mark, my old man will do all the body work, you fund the engine restore etc and we'll make this a proper replica! :D

Album updated with some new pics, check them out in the link 2 posts above.

Car has been sprayed Grand Prix White, fuel tank and bonnet modified as the filler cap had to be moved to accomadate the wings. Roll cage is out ready to be sprayed white, new headlining fitted and currently working on getting the carpet and all other interior back in :)

So I never did come back and update the thread, we did get the car fully restored in the end and sold, my Dad sadly recently passed away but I do have the photos from the finished project. Sold to a great guy Chris, who I am still in contact with now and we meet up for some car shows, recently in the R32GTR and hopefully next in the 996 Turbo I have just purchased which was my Dads most recent 911. Car is now worth around 3-4x what we sold it for, hindsight and all that :D

And more photos and details from the restore :)

And for nostalgia sake as a lot of the old photo/links don't work in this thread, here are 2 out of the many others he done over the years -

I also have a 3.2 Carerra engine (circa 1985) and rebuilt gearbox (can't remember if 915 or G50, getting out of storage in the next few months) if anyone knows anyone looking for either, sadly I won't be involved in any more classic Porsche projects now that my Dad has passed :(

For those interested, the replicas were around £50k back in 2012 and around £150k now
The original RSR's were £500-£600k then and over £1M now :)

Wow!

In the context of reading this thread from the start, how wrong some were!

R.I.P. your father, what a legacy!

Thanks, was interesting to revisit the thread myself and somewhat kick myself knowing the prices now :D

I have some photos of my Dad with one of the first 911's he bought once he got the bodyshop business up and running, a narrow body circa 1970's 911 Carrera in Guards Red I believe, will dig out the photos.

I always remember him saying some of the models you could barely give away 30 years ago are now £100k+ cars. As the years go on, the older ones get rarer and rarer with prices going only one way. At one point (in the last 10 years) he was offered an original low mileage Speed Yellow 993 RS at around £60k, I don't want to look at the value of that now :D
