Stuttgart. Following the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is entering yet another racing car in the 2010 motorsport season: The 911 GT3 R will be raced in series based on the international FIA GT3 regulations, thus succeeding the 911 GT3 Cup S. The main focus in developing this new model was on even better drivability and even easier handling.

The 911 GT3 R is powered by a four-litre six-cylinder boxer engine delivering maximum output of 480 bhp (353 kW) transmitted to the rear axle by a sequential six-speed dog gearbox.

The starting point in developing the 911 GT3 R weighing just 1,200 kg or 2,646 lb was the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup presented in September for one-make cup racing. Thanks to its increase in engine size by 0.2 litres, the GT3 R offers 30 bhp more than the Cup model. Both cars are based on the extra-wide body of the 911 GT3 RS street-legal sports car.

An anti-lock brake system (ABS), traction control and an e-gas with “throttle-blip” function make it much easier to get used to this new GT3 racing car than its predecessor, meaning that the new model is also more appropriate for the ambitious amateur racing driver.

Flared wheel arches added on to the body both front and rear bear clear testimony to the wider track than on the former model. And like all second-generation versions of the 911, the new 911 GT3 R also comes with striking LED rear light clusters.

The Porsche 911 GT3 R is making its world debut on 14 January 2010 at the Birmingham Motor Show. The car is built by Porsche’s Motorsport Department at the Weissach Development Centre and will be delivered to Customer Teams the world over as of spring 2010. The base price of the Porsche 911 GT3 R is 279,000 euros plus local sales tax/VAT.

This after the debut of the 2010 Cup car at Leguna Seca last month, i can only imagine what Porsche have come up with for the 2010 RSR:eek:

Looks like every other 911, Porsche need to make a new model, this will be boring like every other 911, common as muck these, not impressed.

so this is a GT3 cup car, and will be used in GT3 class ?

whats confusing me is that in the GT3 class of the ALMS, they use the normal cup car, not the Cup S.

And there was no GT3 class in the 2009 Le mans

:confused:

'appropriate for the ambitious amateur racing driver' - Oh, I see!

2009 > 2010
Road - GT3 = Mainly road focussed with occasional track usage.
Road - GT3 RS = Mainly track focussed with occasional road usage!
Race - GT3 Cup = Single make championship, very good car.
Race - GT3 R = FIA GT3 regs (Cup tweaked a tad to allow for amatuer-ish events around Europe)
Race - GT3 RSR = IMSA GT2 regs (Cup-R turned upto 11, mainly ALMS events)

whats confused me is the GT3 cup competed under the GT3 regs in ALMS not the Cup S, and there was no GT3 class at the actual Le mans 2009 :)

wonder if they well use the GT3 R now at the 2010 Le mans ?

Put the kettle on as this is slightly confusing - but here goes!

*ALMS - American Le Mans Series 2009
Is based in America using two categories Le Mans prototypes (LMP1 & LMP2 class) & GT cars (GT1 & GT2 class) & also the new Challenge Class.
LMP1 = Acura, Lola
LMP2 = Acura, Lola
GT= Corvette C6-R, Saleen S7-R
GT2 = Ferrari F430 GT2, Porsche GT3 RSR
Challenge Class = Porsche GT3 Cup <---- here are your Cup cars.

*LMS - Le Mans Series 2009
Is based in Europe using four classes of cars:
LMP1 = Aston Martin, Audi R10, Pug 908
LMP2 = Porsche Spyders, Lola, Zytek
GT1 = Corvette C6-R, Saleen S7-R, AM DBR9
GT2 = Ferrari F430 GT2, Porsche GT3 RSR, AM Vantage GT2

*24 Hours of Le Mans
The solo endurance event in France has four classes of cars:
LMP1 = Pug 908 diseasil, Audi R15 diseasil, Aston Martin
LMP2 = Porsche Spyders, Lola, Zytek
GT1 = Corvette C6-R, AM DBR9
GT2 = Ferrari F430 GT2, Porsche GT3 RSR, AM Vantage GT2 <---- no GT3 class, just Porky with confusing names!

The Cup S (or GT3 R as it is now known) is predominantly intended for the amatuer racer, hence the driver aids & not the 'professional' circuit...but it wouldn't bloody suprise me if it pops up!!!

Only the GT3 Cup (in one make series & ALMS challenge) & the GT3-RSR (in ALMS GT & LMS GT2 class) will be 'professionally' raced.

I guess it is also worth mentioning the British GT championship with the GT3, GT4 & Cup categories for many of our favourite manufactures to compete in. Guess who has cars eligible for each of those... confooosing!!! :S
