Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Something else I absolutely love, just driving home tonight in the wet and being able to drive upto the limits of grip on the road and get it sideways and tail wagging without over cooking it too much but just enough to play. The fact that Porsche traction systems just seem way ahead of those found in other cars, because the system in sports mode really does let you play and get some pretty nice angles and wheel slip with zero interaction from the safety systems. When you do over step the mark it is there to assist, but the stability system is superb as you can play but no it's there for when you run out of talent when playing.

It really is something amazing to drive, because I was able to drive home within speed limits more or less ;) and have such huge fun and challenging drive without need for silly speeds, one finds it hard to put in words how good a 911 feels, especially an NA RWD model, those who've owned them I'm sure know what I mean, especially if you like real driving and having fun. :)

Excellent posts Gibbo, a true insight letting non-Porsche owners step inside the car.
Really interesting to hear your thoughts, I do believe Porsche focus on the driving experience before anything else.
Glad to hear you're holding on to it too, though I can see you with a Gen2 GT3 in the future, a stripped out C2S that you were thinking about is heading that direction......

If I won a few hundred thousand I'd strip my 911, bucket seats, harnesses, carbon roof, light wheels, engine re-built with uprated everything with high redline with say circa 450BHP NA, fit a diff, Ohlins suspension, you get the idea, end up around 1150kg-1200kg and then buy a gen2 GT2 for the road. :D

New one on the right, old one on the left, the only one is for sale at £41k if anyone is interested.

I just Love the new one, the sports seats are amazing and I quite like the read seat belts. As much as I like the steering wheel I am going to chang it to a MF steering wheel without the paddles as I will use the MF more then the paddles

What wheels on new one m8 as I love the Carrera Sport wheels which were on your old one as they are also wider too.

So this cost to change was only 2k? Bargain!

May just do that.

Gibbo, what do you think of putting 295/30/19 on the Carrera Sport 11.5" rims?

They'll fit fine!
Loose the stance a little, and less rear grip but will help dial out understeer. Will be fine and you probably won't notice it. :)

At 39k give it to the dealer, you might get 40k but you'll have to deal with tyre kickers, not worth the hassle for 1k.

I'm sceptical because lol journalists but still, that's very impressive to even be able to claim victory.

Aye.

If I had the money 997.2 GT3 every time, the 911 I can imagine is definitely quicker, but the 997's for me are the perfect balance between racer and road car whilst still feeling incredibly special.

The 991 I feel is now more mass production and not as special.

It is a shame the 997.1 Carreras don't have best engines as the 997.1 Carreras are just a lot more rawer than the 997.2's due to the steering and engine sound on the .1 being better. The 997.2 does have more reliable and efficient engine though and much better dampers.

996's for me, especially GT3 variant are just a bit too much for the road, for me the 997 version offers much improved road driving experience whilst still being as good on track.

Shame I aint got 70-100k to drop on a car. :(

I drove a 997 C2S earlier this week.

Good points:
  • Comfortable
  • The extra torque over my old 996 C2 was really noticeable
  • Interior was a huge improvement on the 996
  • Sounded lovely

Bad points:
  • Too refined
  • Very little drama or excitement

My car is just for fun so if it doesn't excite me then I need to look elsewhere.

I'm glad I tried a 997, and I'd still like to try a Cayman S, but I think if I ever get another Porsche it's going to have to be a GT3.

Pretty much spot on. They are quite refined but I find mine delivers excitement plentiful, but you do have to drive it pretty damn hard or be on it as such. Also in fairness mine is running GT3 lower arms, GT3 front and rear anti-roll bars and is setup for neutral/oversteer with an alignment more aggressive than a GT3 RS.

A GT3 should blow you away! I find my stripped M3 more refined/less drama than my 911 in some ways.

Lol yah I know its a shame as it was a genuine car for a very reasonable price.

I fixed the link now

But I am quite happy overall because I paid £38500 for it 10 months ago.

So far I have done quite well with my 911's

Targa 4 paid 27500 and sold it one year later for £31500 but did spend about £4k running it

C2S PDK paid £38.5k and sold for £39k with very little running costs.

New one I bought for £41.5k but its probably worth close to £48k.

I love free motoring lol

Skills, I paid 38k for mine, probably worth 28-30k and the money I've spent modding / running it, well best not to think about. :D

New 991 Turbo S looks insanely fast for a standard car:-

Looks like 6s too 100mph, silly quick for a stock car, imagine it with a remap.

Very nice.
Actually they are hardly any slower than the 911, what your noticing as a problem is the stupid long gearing and lack of torque the 3.8 motor has.

Shorter gearing would be a huge improvement alone, more torque to the wheels. But yes 3.8 would be nice.

For me Cayman is not as challengin to drive, which makes the 911 for me more fun and addictive.

Boxster 986

Looking at the 2.7 as the 3.2 S, which is not bad at £1500 to insure for a 21y/o, is a little expensive for me to go for, just under £1100 for the 2.7 sounds a bit better on the wallet.

Anything to be looking out for on these?

Yes, many many things. 2.7 is more reliable and at your age and lack of experience the one I'd recommend.

Just be sure to get a Porsche 111 inspection done before buying or a specialist to inspect the vehicle, otherwise within 3 months you could have a bill as big as the car cost you to keep it on the road.

Not sure which 911 it was but I just had a play with a 62 plate black one, pretty quick motor. :)

991 or 997

Carrera on both is 345BHP I think.
997.2 S is 381BHP

991 S I think is around 400BHP.

If PDK, don't even try keeping up, they do 0-100mph in sub 8s now I think, that's 500+ BHP EVO territory.

It was a 991. I sailed past him from 20-50 as I think I got on the throttle sooner and then after that he was stuck to my bumper waiting for me to move.

You've got no chance against a 991, even if its only the regular Carrera, PDK gear changes and beyond 100mph the 911 is just too slippery. The S versions are like missiles, 7.9s too 100mph I think, my EVO with 415BHP was like 10.5s, its why my 911 with far less power is quicker than my EVO was once moving.

My car accelerates from 130-170mph in no time at all, of course I've never done this.........

Yep, the GTR can match the 60ft time but after that it just doesn't have enough power to keep up.

Yeah I've being in the 997.2 Turbo S on track with ceramics, in the wet, it absolutely mullered everything on track around it, GT3's, C4S's, GTR's and even one of the fancy R8 GT's.

The 991 Turbo S is more capable and faster again, the thing is in the wet the 911 just seems to do something other cars can't do, even the GTR and I have no idea how they do it, but almost to the point that I'd say in the wet the GTR was the harder car to drive than the 911 as the 911 just seems to make it too easy, especially the 997.2 version.

But not many cars can keep with 911's into three digits, they just seem to slip away and keep accelerating effortless. :)
