Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Do like that, very clean looking example.

If you don't mind me asking what kind of money did it cost you out of interest? Of course I understand if you'd rather not say. :)

As I've not driven a first generation 997.2 only the later 2010+ models, does the PDK on yours have Sports Plus or does it give a positive kick on up-changes at full throttle?

It has 62000 miles and cost me £37000.

It does have the sport plus button, the centre console look like this:

Center%20Console_zpsyvka7xgy.jpg

Very nice and a good price.

Sports Plus on the 2010+ models means it works just like a manual, it will bounce of the limiter if you don't change gear and when you do pull up a gear if you full throttle it should feel like a positive kick/surge forwards, does it?

I have only had it in manual mode for a few minutes so I don't know if that happens, I will try to remember to test it out next time I am driving. It is such a jump in power from my old car that everything feels like a kick/surge forward so I may not be able to tell!

Yeah get used to it first, before you go full throttle, those things pickup speed very fast, PDK C2S is like around 9s 0-100mph, very quick car. :)

Whilst not ideal, it might not be so bad. Ferrari have done wonders with the turbocharged V8 in the 488 GTB, so it can be done.

I simply doubt it.
Less cylinders and turbo, it won't sound as good or respond as well.

Just like 997.1 sound much better than 997.2 and have better steering feel.

New Porsches just seem less special, great but less special, only GT cars are now special and even those are not as iconic such as the 997.1 GT3 RS or 4.0 RS.

Hi there

Out of curiosity I contacted a couple of Porsche specialist car resellers if they were interested in outright purchasing my 911.

One offered £26,000 and the other £27,000.

Quite surprised, am thinking £32,000-£36,000 advertised privately and see how I get on. :)

I've been looking into replacement PCCB's for when mine need to be replaced or if track days become a more common occurance. As I noticed a few nutters on PH's use PCCB's.

I've come across this companny: http://www.carbonceramicbrake.com/

There is a thread over on PH's about these and seem to get a good review and the price is miles better than what the OPC's charge. It seems I can replace all 4 discs for around £4000.00 ~ plus fitting and pads which isn't too bad. So I am going to drop them a email to find out more information and the process for doing this etc....

When speaking to the OPC about the replacement cost, I have been quoted the following:

Front (Per Disc) 380mm - £ 3200.00 + VAT
Rear (Per Disc) 355mm - £ 2800.00 + VAT

I do have a few friends in the trade, who should be able to get a discount on parts but thats only 10 - 15% which helps.

Then you have fitting and pads which aren't too badly priced.

Latest gen ceramics are not as bad on track, but remember the technique with ceramics is to brake smoothly but as hard as you can to keep temperatures as low as you can.

If your gentle, braking less which results in brakes being applied longer will result in them not lasting as long, they de-laminate, so brake smooth but hard, very hard! :)

The on paper specifications sound amazing, 420BHP, 3.9s 0-62mph, 4WS, seems the new Carrera can pretty much be specified with options to be very similar to a GT car without the crazy premiums.

Also twin turbo 3l, for those who are not so bothered about warranty can see these things tuning immensely and no doubt safely.

What I did not see is engine configuration, what are they flat 4, flat 6?

Still think I prefer the idea of the original 3.6/3.8l NA engines even if they are slower.

This will surprise some of you... Mine is in pieces again, AOS failure. Just waiting on parts :(

AOS failure is nothing major, just very scary when it happens as smoke everywhere, looks like an engine explosion. :D

Just on a 911 AOS replacement is a rip off, part is not cheap and its not so easy to do.

I comparison on my M3 the AOS cost less than £20 and is a less than 10 minute DIY.

Was your car consuming oil? Normally sign of a worn/dirty or impending failure from AOS is high fuel consumption and some smoking from both exhaust.

40 kg heavier than the old engine

That's not good in my book, but I do think these are interesting. Let's hope they have changed the steering to bring back some of the 911 feel the 991 lost.

If I go back Porsche after the Mustang it will either be a 997.2 GTS or a Cayman GTS for me I think, GT4 is interesting but I'd want PDK.

Are you sure?

After a couple of months... I'm mildly wishing I'd gone with manual :p

Nope, PDK Sports Plus for me is better than manual, because with a manual it is always a manual.

I use car as a daily, so whilst car is cold AUTO is just easier, traffic jam easier, traffic light grand prix auto is far easier and less harsher on drivetrain.

The latest PDK in Sports Plus is very good, very much like a manual just without the pedal, almost similar to SMG. But older PDK and DSG systems yes I find to boring, to refined, but the newer stuff is much better.

Similar reasons I wanted PDK & I'm not saying I dislike it... just found that I do have a preference for a manual box that I didn't realise I had until I spent a few months with PDK.

I have Sport Chrono Plus & yes... in sport plus I know what you mean... I love the kick in the lower back you get on the upshifts.

As for older PDK/DSG systems are you referring to the non-dual-clutch autos that wouldn't be referred to as PDK/DSG? As I thought there was only one version of PDK in the 997.2/987.2 cars?

No even the first versions of PDK with no Sports Plus have no kick and even worse if you have the push button steering wheel, very quick changes but so boring.

PDK for me is fine as long as it is Sports Plus and you have the sports wheel with paddles. For me in Sports Plus mode it is fine, can hold onto gears, bounce of limiter etc and has the kick. Of course its still not as brutal as SMG but there is nothing better than SMG II found in the E46 or Ferrari 360 F1 when your on it, but those systems are very poor in AUTO mode and can be jerky. Whereas PDK is brilliant as an auto.

In short PDK Sports Plus is 90% better as an AUTO compared to SMG/F1 and only 10% worse off in manual mode compared to those.

Like Housey says PDK is also far safer for the engine and clutches/DMF's last far longer typically in PDK cars than manuals, as should the gearbox and engine as well because it is pretty much impossible to over-rev the engine or money shift.

Maybe I am getting older but I'd take SMG II/III or PDK Sports Plus over a manual now anyday. :)

The gearbox in the GTR is also extremely good as well. :)

Incredible figures for the new 991. Can see the prices of the NAs being a bit stronger going forward. Hopefully 997 will drop a little further to possibly move into next year!

I am very happy, advertising mine when I am back from holiday as the values are really peaking now, new Carrera prices have risen again and like you say NA is now more desirable.

Gonna advertise mine at 35k in October, see what happens but had a few people show interest to me privately if I sell for around 30-32k, shall see. :)

I've been starting to look at 997.1 Carrera 2S prices with some serious interest.

Seems I will need to pay at least £25K for a good one, manual being my preference.

What is the general consensus on residuals around this price point? I would look to keep it and use it for a few years but not heavily

It is all about spec, on a 997.1 C2S the must have options are:-
Manual
PASM
PSE
Sports Chrono
Sports wheel
Sports/auto seats
Sports Design or Carrera Sport wheels
2006 (55 or newer) built car (Has revised IMS and postcode satnav)
Bi-Xenons

The above with low-average miles 20-80k seem to holding value quite well, be sure to get a boroscope inspection to check status on engine scoring.

Cars that are Tiptronic, none PSE, 2004/2005 go for far less money, like around 20k and under, avoid these as they are pretty junk, tiptronic on the 997.1 series really was woeful.

The options that really add value:-
Ceramics
Aero-Kit (rare)
X51 package (rare)
Sports suspension/Diff (incredibly rare)
Speed Yellow ;)

A car with above option with 60k or less miles are in the 30-40k region.

In short avoid Tiptronic and the older 2004/2005 cars like the plague. If you can get a 2006 built car with PSE and other good options it will hold value better. :)

I've just been watching a few sound clips on the new 991.2 and they sound gooooood!!!!

Also on another note, I had my OPC phone me at the weekend to see if I was interested in selling my car as I was offered pretty much the same money for it as I paid. So there must be a good demand for the GTS's at the mo.

I'd say so, a GTS with buckets, PSE, PDK Sports or Manual still an epic car!
