Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

My personal preference in a Cayman is PDK but then I'm a bit bias. However, its all a personal choice!

I pretty much agree with Housey, just go with what she thinks is right for her.

True.

But one of the most fun drives I had in a Porsche was a Boxster 2.9DFI manual because oh boy did I drive it like I stole it, but simply because the engine begged to be revved and you need to stir that joyful gearbox a lot to keep it in the power. Yes it was fun, yes the lack of power and lack of grip would also become an issue once the ragging it everywhere wore off but as a courtesy car it was epic fun. :D

You can't renew the warranty with non N rated tyres but as that's not a issue for you it's fine. I hate the P zeros also.

Pzero on the Mustang, no better than on the 911, I think they stand for zero grip in cold/wet, aweful tyre compared to other Summer tyres such as MPSS, F1AS2, V105, RS5 in colder wet conditions.

Oh well they will keep me on my toes and my speed down in the colder/wet conditions for sure.

That's the big problem with them though, its the unpredictable nature of them in wet conditions. Granted, I don't drive mine in the wet a lot or at all if I have the choice but the odd occasion when I have been caught in the rain its been a handful.

I'll replace them with MPSS as soon as the new stock comes through.

Yes agreed, the Mustang scared me yesterday, motorway slip road, wet and cold but I though hey I will put it in 4th and floor it, will be fine, I was wrong, had to correct a rather big sideways moment. The Pzero is very unpredictable and snatchy in the wet, MPSS, F1AS2, V105 are far better for progression and grip in the wet. Rainsport 3 is absolutely incredible in the wet, but is behind all the others in the dry.

You'd just expect better from Pirelli to be honest, but oh well. In comparison I drove the M3 to the restaurent last night as I need to drive fast and it was even colder but the M3 glued to ground in comparison and when it broke lose far more progressive, it has V105's on but tyres make a vast difference. If the M3 was still running cups or RSR's then it was also pretty snappy in wet and low grip.

Just wish Ford had put Super Sports on the regular GT's and not just the Shelby's. :(

Sound: 1 / 10

Sorry Porsche!

I am sure the handling is 10/10 and performance incredible for what it is, but you just ruined the whole open top Boxster experience for me, which was listening to that glorious flat 6 being spun upto 7000rpm with a sports exhaust.

I do hope the special editions like Spyder, GT4 will hang on to the larger displacement, more cylinder NA engines. :)

Fitted new window Regulator today after my passenger one decided to jam open last Friday night, just in time for the wind and rain we've had this week. Have done this before on the drivers side, which seemed to take forever, but I was done within 90 minutes today! So much easier once you know how.

I still love how easy it is to work on Porsches. Which is helpful as my drivers carpets are soaked and I need to figure out where the bloody hell it's coming in.

You need a new door membrane mate, that is why your drivers carpet is wet, I had the same in mine, changing this fixed it, no idea on cost as was done under warranty by Porsche. Supposedly quite common!

Right I've got my first oil change at the local OPC, I wonder how much this is going to cost! :(:o:eek:

And of course you need a 991 C4S or Turbo for 24hrs whilst you leave your car with them as your planning an upgrade.

I always used to book my car in on a Friday to collect on a Monday. The result something really nice to have over the weekend, I got a Cayman R out of them once. :D

That's Porsche all over, its the small upgrades make a big over all change.

Yeah but this is tamer than previous GT3's on the eyes for sure, it looks more 911 turbo than GT3.

But like I say could just be down to the colour. :)

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I LOVE IT! The GT4 that is! :)

A great pair!

Question, was MPSS not an option instead of Cup 2's? Just as you won't track it so much MPSS would make it far better on the road and improve the comfort as well.

I bet Housey is going to hunt you down and kill you, I mean steal your car! :D

They are not N-Rated in that size, so it could be a potential warranty issue.

Porsche could not deny you a warranty on a brand new car though, only an extended warranty.

They'd have a real hard time trying to prove tyres caused his engine to explode, haha. :D

No Bose or ACC. :(

Bose aint anything special anyway, the sound system in the Mustang is better than my Bose was in the 911.

What is ACC?

One thing I will say, though it is a perfect specification and looks great the colour is simply too loud for the car. It really needs a more aggressive front splitter and a ducktail spoiler absolute minimum to pull of that colour, otherwise the same spec car in grey, black would be a far better in my view.

I can see why that guy on Rennlist with deep pockets did what he did, because in all fairness he is right a 991 C4 GTS will drive and be more capable than a GT3 on a road for sure and be a lot more comfortable, so I can completely understand why he did that because as road handling cars go it really is hard to be a GTS Porsche they are the pinnacle of road handling with great comfort and still perfectly capable on a race track.

For me the 997 911 really was the best looker, if anything I'd say the Cayman GT4 is a better looking car than the 991 GT3, for me nothing will top the Viper Green and Orange 997.1 GT3 RS cars, they were absolutely stunning to look at, but not so great on a UK road for going to the shops. :D

Oh my, Porsche just made my dream car, 911R really is the stuff dreams are made off, 1250kg dry weight and 500BHP NA and setup for maximum road handling and entertainment. Simply wow, gotta be one of if not the best road car on sale today.

Housey

Just buy a friggin car man! Do it whilst you can, if you keep waiting for the next possible car to come along you will be waiting for ever, I think you have being thinking this decision over now for like 2-3 years.

It is time to act man and I don't think a 991 GTS will be boring, you want to enjoy your car on the road, the GTS is the best road car. GT4/GT3 do have more edge and are sharper tools but also have far less grip on a UK cold damp/wet road.

End of the day you owned a track setup GT3, if that is what you long for again, get the GT4 or GT3 purchased, just go and DO IT, DO IT NOW. If however at times that car annoyed you, too firm, to hardcore for road, then buy a GTS.

But please go and buy something. :D
