**Portal 2 PS3, Steam cross-platform play **

Will be so much win if you can buy the PS3 version, unlock the PC/Mac version with it then trade it after. I'm sure they will prevent this though.

Only way I'd consider buying a Valve game on a console, ever.

I'd have thought the people buying it second hand that end up contacting Steam support with proof of ownership would quickly result in issues for you playing it. ;)

Quite surprised Sony sanctioned this can't see microsoft allowing it on xbox (as GFWL is a competetor(well tries to be) with steam).

I think it's good though.

Have I made a poor assumption and thought this wont be played over PSN as we understand it with normal PS3 games but over Steam - therefore the device accessing Steam is largely irrelevant...

If thats the case how does the X360 work? And if that isnt then I defer to the previous point regards Sony giving access to PSN to a third party to enable this...

When you think about it both the PC and PS3 share Free internet gaming and support Keyboard and mouse. Steam on PS3 would be awesome. I own PS3, PC and MacBook Pro so I'll just have to buy Portal 2 on PS3 and i'll get to use it on the others. This is the way the market should be moving, Thanks Valve :)

As far as I can work out, you'll log in to Steam to play the PS3 version online and this will be the only way to do it. If you want to play against your PS3 friends, it will be via Steam not via PSN. You will have to re-add your PSN friends as Steam friends - unless Valve import them automatically.

Xbox 360 will use Live as normal - no Steam features at all.

The sad thing is - they kept coming back - I really felt bad for a time, but quickly got over it. Last time I installed Q3, I did keep a 1.16n install ;)

Tbh i'd expect its more likely there just wouldn't be a 2nd hand market for Portal 2 PS3 copies.

Well theres no clear information but it could be it uses both, after all PSN is the overriding network surely?

I imagine the best way to tell was that they sucked and would get there ass handed to them without difficulty. Since Portal is coop it won't have that issue.

The PSNs not so heavily integrated into games as Xbox Live I believe. Early on some games where requiring their own registration and logins to systems (e.g. Metal Gear Online).

Excellent news, Valve never disappoints. Remember watching a video where Gabe slated the PS3 too. Good man, NOW WHERE THE HELL IS HALF-LIFE 3.

Fell sorry for anyone owning a XBox 360 to be fair, you lot have to pay for all the DLC while we get it free. :(

You'll certainly have to log in to a Steam account; probably much like you are required to log into an EA account in addition to PSN for their online game.

I can't see there being an issue with friends tbh - the majority of PS3 games already do their game invites independently, and in this case I'd imagine all invites would be sent using Steamworks. It should be pretty easy for them to automatically show friends from PSN who have Steam accounts linked on a single list, without you having to re-add people.

Well you'd imagine (or at least hope) the issue of friends would be a far simpler discussion than the act of actually getting Steam onto the PS3 and integrated with Portal 2 for cross platform.
