Portal 2 PS3 steam info

The biggest question is surely what else we'll now get available via Steam on the PS3? Obviously a lot of the games are PC centric but there are also plenty of smaller games that could be released on the PS3 with a bit of recoding. Would Sony allow them to distribute via Steam or would it have to go via the PSN like everything else.

LOL, Doug Lombardi (Valve marketing supremo) quoshes the Move statement by the story guy.

Faliszek told the German PlayStation Blog that the game would boast "PS3-exclusive cloud saving, a free code for PC and complete PlayStation Move support."

The subsequent statement from Valve spokesman Doug Lombardi read, "this quote was 'lost in translation' - Portal 2 does not include support for Sony's motion controller."

The Germans who wrote the original article must have got their wires crossed.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but where has Steam on PS3 been mentioned? Steam is a PC/Mac service, Sony isn't going to allow a service on PS3 that competes with themselves.

Dude, you are behind the times. Gabe Newell is bringing (part of) Steam to the PS3. Portal 2 will be using the Steam Cloud for save games, cross-game chat and play between PC and PS3 versions of the game. That's just for starters. So it's more Steamworks than the Steam store.

That's what I meant though, there's elements of Steam infrastructure there obviously but Steam is primarily a digital distribution service, and I don't see Sony allowing that any time soon.

i wonder if steam will run in the background and still let you use party chat with other games
I really do think psn should get some way of talking with a group of friends and this could be the answer hopefully or i could just end up on steam games all the time :D

On the PC? Of course. On the PS3? Of course not, because it isn't running Steam. All the Steam-esque features will be built into the game, it's not going to become part of the console's core functionality all of a sudden.

Hi guys has anyone heard more about the ps3 and free steam version? Im more than likely to play this on the pc but having a ps3 makes getting the ps3 version a no brainer. Dont have much time to play games at the moment but def looking to pick it up - is it going to be for a limited time only?

if not i might wait till its a bit cheaper and purchase. either way cant wait :)

Valve pretty much cleared everything up today - the PS3 version comes with a code which can be redeemed after you've linked your PSN account with your Steam account which then entitles you to the PC/Mac version of the game.

The Steam features are all accessed through an overlay (similar to how it works on the PC when in-game) by pressing select at any time. So your getting cross platform multiplayer and voice chat between PS3/PC/Mac players, full access to your Steam friends list and achievements. There's also Steam cloud support for saves, but these are not cross platform compatible. It all sounds great to me, I hope Valve share this with other developers using Steamworks so they can bring this to future PS3 games...

More details here.

This game comes out next friday and I am thinking of buying it.

Anyone played Portal 1 on ps3 or 360? Never played it on any formats, but I remember people raving about it when it came out, just wondering if it is fun playing it on a joypad or whether Mac/PC is better (with a mouse).

I will probably buy the PS3 version and redeem the free Mac version of it, just curious on opinions from Portal players.
