Come on AMD release the new cards already - the graphics card section is going to implode at the boredom, LOL.

Even then there will be drama, that's literally what this subsection thrives on, point scoring and drama.

Still multi GPU so it's not fact.

I think you meant, in my opinion.

I think you'll find in the opinion of anyone that isn't a blinkered point scoring fanboy. Even better value when it was sub £500 for a while. Can you get 2 cards for the same price? Sure, if you want to put up with aftermarket coolers that will more often than not dump air into the case which in turn makes the cards hotter and runs the fans harder and louder. Already been down that route with a reference 290x and a vapor x which was quite the racket when both cards got up to temp. Not had that issue with the 295x2.

Very well may be their opinion but it still isn't fact.

Weren't you having trouble with one of your cores downclocking in GTA V?

Then show me the alternative that offers all of the above for £530.

As for gta, one of the advanced options was causing the issue, with it off the cores stay at 1018.

Here's a fact, If I was buying a new card now it would not be a 295x2.

Heres another fact, i don't give a ****. :)

I've already given you alternatives that many others use.

Just because those alternatives are no good for your situation does not mean it's a fact though.

"My situation" takes into account 2 of the main things that are most griped about on this forum, heat, and noise. Fact.

Yet others using 2 cards don't have either of those issues or they wouldn't be using them.

The 970's don't exactly run hot, are likely no louder than the 295x2 rad fan (in fact many people have to use 2 fans on the rad to stop the card from throttling) and actually will use slightly less power.

Again, your own situation does not = fact.

Depends on the cards used obviously, the reference cards (970) dump the heat out but they're few and far between these days, iirc ocuk were one of the only stores to actually get the 970 with the titan style blower. Going on my own experience with a vapor x which is a very quiet cooler and a reference 290x, i could see 2 cards dumping heat into the case causing the cards to become loud over extended periods.

Which is exactly why you can't say it's a fact the 295x2 is the best option for £530.

It entirely depends on the individuals setup and without trying 970 SLI yourself you can't say it wouldn't be better for yourself either.

Adequate spacing and good case airflow is fine for blower style cards.

Show me an nvidia card that can beat the £530 295x2? It doesn't exist and for that price its a bargain considering its still top dog in the performance stakes dual gpu or not.

Hang on there mate, let's look at the original comment shall we..

I can't afford to spend close to £1000 on a Titan X card, which is why I use AMD graphics in my computers.

Which I replied with:

Just a heads up mate, Nvidia do sell other cards that don't cost £1000 ;)

This guy isn't aware that Nvidia sell an entire range of GPU's from low to high and even enthusiast Titan X.

Now he knows AMD aren't the only option.

295x2 minimums have the potential to be worse than a single 290x due to overheads. Nvidia have no need to release a dual GPU card as they hold the single GPU crown. I hope the 3xx cards are up to what little hype there is for the sake of the GPU market.

You honestly think that he never knew there were other nvidia options besides the £1000 option despite being on a site with a store since 2005 and links to dozens of reviews? :p

Blower style yes, but with aftermarket coolers its not that simple as they tend to dump the heat into the case.

The way I look at is this, either he was trolling, suggesting Nvidia only sell $1000 cards, or he genuinely didn't know that Nvidia cater to all budgets.

So I either called him out on his trolling, or educated him so now he knows AMD aren't the only option under $1000.

Just doing my bit :D

Even aftermarket can be fine.

Plenty of crossfire 290 and 290x users on here that don't have heat or noise issues.

Maybe with a wind tunnel for a case, even when i had my fortress ft02 which is one of the best air cooling cases around i still got issues with the vapor x spinning up to annoying levels. As for noise, just have to look at the msi thread with people saying the card is noisy and others saying its quiet. Luck of the draw for decently applied TIM it seems.
