My moron friends can't understand that I am not going to fork out on a ps3, simply as a blu ray player. I hate the controller, and there are maybe 5 exclusive titles I would have possibly been interested in, it doesn't justify the purchase.

I'm CONSIDERING getting one 2nd hand as a blu ray player but if I can find a pre made or custom built HTPC for same money or less than even a brand new PS3 I'd consider it.

So, is it possible or no?

I would't call them morons at all i have seen the ps3 for £199 brand new...taking into account that it can play some decent games and the fact the sony claim it has yet to even reach it full stirde regarding media apps would say pretty good choice. What HTPC would you expect to buy at even £250?

Do you have any parts you can use for the htpc or do you need everything.
There is nothing wrong with the ps3.You can get a remote for it you know if you just want to use it for blu ray.You never know ther may be the odd game for it you would like.
Try the members market to see if there are any cheap ps3's :)

You'll struggle to beat the cost of a PS3. Also Blu-Ray software support is fairly immature on most htpc applications - they all, as far as I know (WMC, XMBC, MP) load up an external player.
