Hello

A friend of mine has recently been made redundant and the company agreed to allow him to buy his old works laptop. They removed all the software and passwords etc relevant to the business and all seems well except...

When it boots and just before it starts the XP desktop up pops the company small screen to say that it is the property of the company he worked for etc... The company are not interested in helping.
Clicking ok gets to the desktop and all is well.

Apart from formatting and installing XP is there way to disable that notice..?

Thanks

open regedit and browse to...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

delete these keys

LegalNoticeCaption
LegalNoticeText

restart windows.

Thanks for your help...

The regedit removal of the entries did nothing sadly.

But the Hotwired solution seems hopeful. I have deleted the company message but now it comes up with a blank message, well saying "no message" not sure how to stop the box coming up in the first place..?

Uhmmm

Control Panel
Administrative Tools
Local Security Policy
Local Policies
Security Options

And then scroll to the Interactive Logon bits.

Message Title and Message Text looks like promising points to make blank.

Yes I think that it should be right...

EDIT: It might have worked - just trying a reboot now :)

Woot indeed it does :)

Thank you ever so much for your help. My friend will be well impressed and credit will be given to you generous people of this forum.
