Now that the nVidia GTX 680 2GB has launched I’m already looking forward to the rest of nVidia’s line-up. Rumors started about the GTX 690 and what about the GTX 680 with a wopping 4GB of memory (which is available for pre-order right now).

A few latest details of NVIDIA’s upcoming GeForce GTX 690 (Dual GK104) GPU have been revealed by Expreview. The GeForce GTX 690 would be NVIDIA’s next generation dual chip graphics card based on two GK104 28nm Kepler Cores and would launch in May 2012.

An alleged photo of NVIDIA’s Upcoming Dual chip flagship GPU – GeForce GTX 690 has been exposed. The photo is in low quality and could probably be fake, Nevertheless it looks quite interesting, Details below:

Image courtesy of wccftech.com but could be fake :-)

The card is definitely based on two GK104 chips (the same chip was used on the GeForce GTX 680) holding 3072 Cuda Cores (1536 from each core), 256 TMUs, 64 ROPs. It holds 4 Memory chips on either sides of the PCB which equals a memory interface of 256-bit for each core. This means we would see a 4GB VRam on the board.

New details tell that the card would be powered through two 8 Pin Connectors while the rear display panel would include three DVI connector and a mini DisplayPort interface. All of the latest NVIDIA Technologies would be supported by the GPU such as PCI-E 3.0 compatibility, adaptive vertical sync,GPU Boost, TXAA anti-aliasing, 3D Vision Surround.

I for one, am very interested and would appreciate any news whether it is rumours or hard evidence.

Gibbo hinted at prices being between 700 and 800 iirc. I hold out hope for the lower price for the step up program but I am arguing with myself on this. Common sense tells me to get another 680 when they drop in price however part of me says "do it"

More specs and benches will help my decision.

you're crazy, just get another 680, the GTX 690 wont be as powerful as two 680S will it... even i've seen the light, the GTX 690 is a total waste of time.

it's for a few people only and will only be for sale in a few places

But if it comes out at £700 then that means I have to add £270 to get a 690. If I go sli, I have to add £430 minimum. I am in no rush but have less than 60 days left on the step up program.

I have no need to do either but really tempted to do either.

Thanks Cleee. Exactly my thoughts on that reply.

Oh and to clarify Mal, I never bought too early as I love my 680 and the hassle free gaming it gives me. I don't want to waste a step up program (which you should research before commenting on, making yourself look silly). If I go 3 screens, then the 690 would be a cheaper option than spending another £430.

If it is £800, then no but if it is £700~ then maybe.

The countdown has started. GeForce GTX 690 will be released by NVIDIA during GeForce LAN / NVIDIA Gaming Festival (NGF) 2012 in Shanghai, China on April 28th.

It seems that our information that NVIDIA will release their newest product by April 30th was true. So this is even before Intel’s Ivy Bridge official announcement. This also proves all the rumors and leaks from multiple pages. I’m pretty sure that most of the reviewers are already testing this dual-gpu card as we speak.

There is also a possibility that this may be a brand new GeForce graphics processing unit (like GK110), but that would be totally unexpected! ORB-Hardware confirmed that we can expect few NVIDIA GeForce cards in upcoming weeks – that includes GTX 670, GTX 660 and maybe GTX 650. Don’t be surprised if NVIDIA actually decides to announce more than one card. So stay tuned for more leaks!

np :)

For 3 screens 2gb VRAM isn't enough to do justice to the power. Have you considered 685/7XX?

ps, what's your battlelog ID?

Yes Cleee and you are spot on with 685 and 7XX...This vram issue I know to be a hold back and I don't want to have to lower settings in games. This is one of the draw backs but on a re-sell value, I can see the 690 holding a better price than the 680....Hindsight is a wonderfull thing.

I don't expect the next gen of cards to come much quicker than November, so my 680 would be adequate till then.

If you click my signature pic, it will take you to my Battlelog bud :)

It does kinda make me want one though. Crazy price/not as fast as 2x680SLI but still I am very very tempted.

Edit:

Justification time....Myself and my two work colleagues have just finished paytalk negotiations. We got a very nice % payrise this year. The recent pay rise will be back dated to January 1st. I also have some overtime to come to me in March's pay.

Now using the step up program with EVGA, this additional cost of the 690 is more than covered. I could bash the CC till the 28th May and order on the 3rd.....Man, what to do, what to do?

Not waste your money??

You paid £430 for ur 680.

So you need to add around £400 for a 690 and £20 for shipping back to EVGA.

Whereas, you could pay £10 extra and just get another 680. Easy.

It does seem like I would be wasting money. My card clocks real nice as well, which I have seen others don't. Also, there is no rush to get another 680, so could get one when GK110 is released at cheaper prices.

I will prolly stay with the 680 for now, as my head tells me to 'wise up abit' Maybe I should listen to it.

I suspect the reason for the price tag is that Nvidia have such a limited supply so they can price them at £800 and they can still sell all inventory, plus the 7990 isn't out.

Also it is very unlikely the 7990 will be able to touch the 690 due to the increased power requirements of 7970, with the 690 they can basically have 2 full fat 680's running at almost 680 speeds, I can't see AMD being able to do that with 7990

+1

Spot on Straxuii

It only takes one game to render a card useless (take BF3 for example) and lots of us rush out and buy a new GPU.

Useless is a little strong however when you compare the ultra gfx on the PC to the gfx on a PS3, the difference is night and day. My Daughters boyfriend plays BF3 on PS3 and after seeing BF3 on my PC, he asked if I would build him a PC.

It is 'keeping up with the Jones' as the old saying used to go. It does not matter what it is for some...Clothes (why buy Paul Smith/Versace/Gucci when Asda do a lovely range). Cars (why buy a 20K car when a 7K car does the same job) etc etc.

My point is we don't need this new tech but something in some of us makes us want it.

A few friends have asked the same of me. The consoles are pathetic. If only we'd get games that were designed for the PC

Absoloutely, I feel we are shunned for the mass market of consolers. I don't know if it is piracy or just limited PC sales but it does kinda leave a bad taste in the mouth knowing we have so much power at our finger tips yet very little to show it off.

I know we have PC exclusives but I want a PC exclusive that blows consoles out of the water, end of.

we only feel we want it because we spend far too much time on this forum, if you left the forum you wouldn't feel like this at all... no pressure to buy whatsoever.

this forum seduces you, i mean look at Gibbo's posts :D.... buy buy buy ``why you need a 680`` :D

lol just lol

The forum does not make me spend money...The bloody shop does.
