To be honest, VW name most of their cars after various terms for wind, nothing to do with sport.

I think it’s all to do with it’s heritage, maybe BMW should have called the more buxom models the nini ?

The selling point of the original mini was it's size. That's why it was called mini ...
As above it should now be called obese

That's great but the BMW version never claimed to be mini, it was re-launched as a brand/marque in 2000 for a hatchback and along with that the selling point changed. People need to get over themselves and the historic reason behind the name instead of being upset.

Looked at this, then looked at my car, and couldn’t help thinking we’ve taken several steps backwards in design over the years (although definitely several steps forward in pedestrian impact safety)
