New Vantage looks silly with the standard dual exit pea shooters, the quad exhaust fills the holes in the bumper and looks much better

Also make an even better noise

But that 911 is best with the dual ;)

To much glue on your presents I suspect, so will make allowances.

I had an Insignia 1.6T petrol which when you looked underneath had a proper dual system including two silencers, but no visible tailpipes at all. Therefore there must have been a good engineering reason.

Sometimes its best not to just make stuff up.

E30 has twin pipes front to back. 3 cylinders for one pipe, 3 cylinders for the other.

Thought it was pretty normal on cars with more than 4 cylinders? Aside from 5 cylinder cars... :p

But probably joined together at or before the manifold. There's no reason to do it on a 4 cylinder, especially a tiny 1.6...

    Why two silencers?

I think it's pretty common on non inline engines. It's more expensive with cats and heavy so at least modern BMWs it seems to be a thing only the M cars or the v8s get.

I'd imagine it has a rather large 4" or 5" cat right after the turbo then splits into a dual 1.5-1.75" exhaust to aid flow while keeping noise down.

    Sounds quite plausible. :)

It was certainly a surprising thing to see - a real engineering reason for a dual system, which the marketeers didnt want to take advantage of.

A terrible picture of the underneath of my Golf R. One pipe, 4 exhausts for a 2.0 4-banger. :o

Hatchbacks with quads are stupid. Quads belong on supercars and nothing else.

The outer pipes are pretty much fake and don't really do anything.

I don't think posting the truth will come high up his list.

If you’ve been anywhere near one you’d realise that they are all plumbed in. Have to agree with the other comments though, does it really need quad pipes?

Probably find if you cut the silencer open that when in sport/race mode and the flaps open on the second set of tips the exhaust gases flow through a less silenced chamber

HAHA!! I was going to say exactly the same lol.

On most with the quad exit, the left hand set are on a vac actuator and will only open if you boot it. 90% of the time for normal driving, the right hand exits are the main ones. They're not fake in the slightest ROFL
