I rejoined these forums after a long time away, mostly spent on other forums. I used to keep up to date with all the latest PC hardware (even going to far as phase change) but I've lapsed and now I want my computer to work rather than need a spanner taken to it every 2 days.

Those members who joined pre-2004-ish might recognise the structure of my name. To be honest its been so long since I've been on these forums I can't even remember when I was last here. I was a student when I was last here and after a fair few years with my head in books I'm finally in the big wide world of work. For those who recognise the name it might not surprise you to hear that I now work in mathematical research. That's right, I'm that cool....

You have been mentioned in many threads since i joined here. :D
You are pretty much OCUK folklore :p
I don't know if that's a good thing or bad. I know some posters/lurkers on these forums off-site and a few have occasionally mentioned things like "Your name came up in another 0.9r thread", at which point I have flash backs to one circa-2003 on these forums and start gritting my teeth....

They occasionally mention science related stuff from these forums too but I've been on other science forums for a while so haven't been bothered to come back here. If the comments of said friends are to be believed I might end up disagreeing (politely, of course) with people in threads on such things. I spend a lot of time on www.sciforums.com (I assume linking to non-PC related forums is okay?) and I tend not to suffer cranks/hacks gladly :p

In regards to rejoining the forums, having finally got into the world of work and now no longer live on a student budget I fancy splashing out on some decent hardware again and that tipped the scales.

Hi and welcome back.

Feel free to join our Premier League and Championship Last Man Standing games over in the Football Forum.

A new Championship edition is due to start this Saturday.
I'm not an enormous fan of football but thanks anyway.

Alright mate? That's an imaginative username :D

I did wonder if you were still around.

Yes, the username does lack a bit of imagination but the fact its slightly more imaginative than adding a '2.0' suffix meant I was too lazy to think up something else.

Still in the South Wales area? I've bounced up to Scotland now so don't get back there much any more.

A private company, not academia. I guess its more 'maths applied to industry' but it says 'mathematician' on my contract :p I finished university last year and was fortunate to get a job almost immediately, though it meant moving from the South coast all the way to 'sunny' Scotland (as I type this its chucking it down with snow outside!).

I just noticed you're in Glasgow. I'm not in Glasgow, I'm closer to Edinburgh, though a few people I work with live in Glasgow. I'll leave the "Which is better, Glasgow or Edinburgh?" issue alone :p
