really odd request, but i really want to sell some of my computer bits - but the main things that is holding me back is i have NONE of the original packaging for anything i own - and out of the few vain attempts of sending stuff with botched packing Ive had quite a few damaged bits - Anyone know of anywhere where i can get packing adequate for sending cpu's? that's my main concern, and hard drives. Or just any general tips? lol odd request i know - also i couldn't think of where to make this thread so i hope here suffices!

regards

Your local post office should have a box that'll do the job, so grab one of those and use lotsa bubblewrap.

I save all the bubblewrap and padded envelopes I received from online purchases. otherwise stationery hsop or post office.

i do this also, saves me a fortune

i`m sure your local office supplies will sell some kind of packaging

post office seems to have plenty of boxes and bubble wrap, but a cpu - its so fragile, well the pins are! last one i sent (which was actually in a retail box for that particular) got many of the pins bent, thankfully they where straightened up by the buyer and worked fine, hmm :( tis annoying, to be honest i would actually pay a fair bit of money for peoples old boxes lol - just because things would fit so snugly - well lernt my lesson i suppose! from now on any boxes and stuff are getting loft-ed and kept for when i come to sell it >.<

If you're sending a processor, break up an old mobo for the socket, obv leaving the board below it. Send the proc in that, no bent pins :) Failing that, a proper cpu shipping box (like a little jewellery box) is best.

Sandwich the cpu in between two slices of sponge (not of the cake variety) and secured in a cardboard box should protect the pins, as they'll be stuck into the sponge

maybe go to Wickes and get a big sheet of polystyrene for a few quid,
it helps support the cardboard box while they kick it around the van.

try a local industrial estate, we sling out skip fulls of bubblewrap

while you have your head in the skip, get some of the black antistatic bags out of there.

I'm pretty sure the sponge they use is static proof kind of stuff. You can probably buy it from competitors.

PAck things so that they are tight inside boxes, i.e. no rattling around inside. Fill the packages with newspaper, card, bubble wrap, anything really. just make sure there is no movement inside.

cpu - press it into some flat foam or sponge and wrap it up well.
