Riteo ...

Myself and the GF are looking at going away for 2 weeks in Florida. Ideally March/April time this year.

We can get onto the Disney Park for one day for free, as her friend works there and can get us in on her pass.

What we are looking for are ideas as to the best place to be located to get to the parks, and more importantly where the better beaches are (we're quite into lazing around on the beach all day !) However, a bit of sight seeing aswell would be cool.

My GF suffers from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, so anything which is miles and miles of walking is pretty much totally out of the question.

Really, Id like an idea as to what is a 'normal' price to pay for a holiday out there, who we should look to for decent deals etc. I've seen we can fly out there with BA for about 320 quid return each, but we were hoping for a bit cheaper than that as we obv need to look into accomodation on top also. All the 'package' deals ive searched for are Room only or Self catering, is this the norm for florida?

the other question we need to look at is about transport... would you recommend hiring a car for the days we need to go out and about, (we are hoping to be based near the beach of choice as thats where we will spend most time), or would you say public transport is adequate...?

Id appreciate if people could give me an insight into past experiences out there.... Cheers !

hey,

Theme parks wise of course theres Disney but you might also want to visit Universal Studios its great fun and you have all the rides from the films etc.

Beaches wise, of course theres Palm Beach, its the best beach in Florida id say. The closest beach from Orlando is probably 45 minutes which is Cocoa Beach, its an ok beach but its very touristy much prefer palm beach my self or New Smyrna :D

If you want to be at the center of everything you would probably want to stay in one of the resort hotels such as the Walt Disney hotel and spa.

There are things like blizzard beach and typhoon lagoon which are great fun, especially typhoon lagoon when the big waves come :D

I was in Orlando for Chrsitmas and New Year but we stayed in a villa in Kissemee (sp) and hired a car so no idea what public transport is like. If your gf is as bad as you say then Universal could be awkward unless you're willing to sit at a lot of the cafes/bars as there is a lot of walking to do, but plenty of places to sit and chill. Never went to any of the beaches though but Killa Ken would probably know a bit more than me about them. If you do go to the parks try and get an express pass, instead of a 1 hour wait the longest we waited was about 15 minutes :D

Didnt think of that, but i think in Universal you can hire golf buggy's but you have to have a good reason, which in your case i think you do.

Beaches wise florida is surrounded by them but like i said Palm Beach is the place to be for a REAL beach scene, Ive found most of the ones near Florida are heavily kiddified not much fun.
